Should I take iron supplements only during my period?

I’m not anemic, but I am vegetarian, so I’m more cautious about the iron I lose through my period. Is it a good idea to take supplements during my period? Is it okay if I take them only during my period and not every single day? (I also take a calcium supplement and a Vitamin B12 supplement regularly.)
