Why are Americans so obsessed with taking supplements and where are we going with this topic?

Studies have repeatedly proven that food is better than supplements and that in many cases supplements can actually be harmful. So WHY the obsession?

  1. Low caloric value. Cheaper, overall (think about it– buying a multivitamin versus buying several different types of food). Also, sheer laziness– it’s easier to know one thing has "everything you need" (or that one pill with "fix your problem") than to have to calculate combinations of food.
