Best time to take a calcium supplement with Vitamin D supplement?
I’m taking 50,000 IU of Vitamin D twice a week for a deficiency. I’m wondering when the best time to take my calcium supplement is if I’m taking the Vitamin D. For instance will most calcium be absorbed if I take them together or an hour apart? Does it even matter?

Vitamin D helps the absorption of Calcium when they are taken at the same time, at least 2-3 times a day, and never more than 600 mg of Calcium at a time. The body can’t absorb more than 600 mg of Calcium at any given point in time and you need at least 1,000 mg per day for optimal bone health (ergo, 2-3 doses per day). You could take them at the same time or apart since Vitamin D stores in the system, but ideally, you’d want to take Vitamin D with Calcium on a regular basis (like when you aren’t mega-dosing).
You might want to take Vitamin D more in conjunction with the Calcium, but I would recommend asking your doctor if you can take extra Vitamin D or if that wouldn’t be safe with you trying to overcome the deficiency with the mega-dose of Vitamin D. Also to note, Vitamin D is one of several nutrients that help the absorption of Calcium… there’s also Magnesium, Boron, Vitamin K, Silica, Zinc/Copper, and Ipriflavone among others. Good luck and I hope I helped!
Yes
When taking that drug it isn’t going to matter what time you take your calcium, because it stays in your system – you aren’t peeing it out all day…
So take your calcium in divided doses (split it up during the day) and take it with food if you can – it helps a little with absorption – but if remembering to take it means taking it on an empty stomach, by all means, take it on an empty stomach.
Good Luck
