There is no question that it is very hard to find the energy and drive required to get study done when you don’t know how to motivate yourself to study. Motivation and passion go hand in hand, but it can be extremely difficult to get passionate about studying!

So instead of telling you that motivation should come easily to you, we are going to provide you with some wisdom that has been provided by students just like you. Here are five tips you can use to move your study forward – especially when you don’t feel like studying!

Tip One. Listen to what you are saying to yourself. The thoughts you have each day create your reality and form your perspective on life. If you keep telling yourself that you’re “not motivated” then you won’t feel motivated! Pretty simple really! So start creating positive thoughts in place of any negative ones you have. If you find yourself thinking “I will never get this done” then replace it with “I will get this done, I always get my work done” (and so on). Soon you will be thinking yourself to success!

Tip Two. Visualize your awesomeness. It might seem corny but visualization is a great tool for getting motivated. Think about how good it feels when you hand in your homework or assignment on time. Or how great you feel when you get a top grade on your next test. Think first, act second.

Tip Three. Break up tasks into tiny bite size chunks. Stop looking at what you need to complete as one big thing. It’s not one big thing! It’s lots of tiny little things! Start chopping up your tasks into tiny little action steps. Complete a worksheet, attend a class, read a chapter of your text book – they are all little chunks that lead to something much bigger. Take little baby steps each day and by the end of the week you will have achieved a lot. That’s the truth. Do 30 minutes study a day and you have done 3 hours study in a week. Do that every week and you have done 150 hours of study. But it all starts with 30 minutes today!

Tip Four. Surround yourself with study buddies. If you can find others who are experiencing similar things to you there is no doubt it will help calm you down and see that you are not alone. But the best part is that study buddies will give you their own words of wisdom and tips about how to get the work done (not to mention hold you accountable for getting it done!) It is highly motivating when you team up with others and make a commitment to getting the task done.

Tip Five. The more you do the closer you are to the end. We’ve all been there. Work just seems to constantly pile up and no matter how much you get done there is always more work to do. But the thing to remember is that every day brings you closer to completion. When you hand in an assignment you have ticked a box. When you sit a test or exam you have ticked a box. There are only so many boxes you have to tick before your study days are over. Your life will not be like this forever. So start ticking boxes like crazy and before you know it they’ll all be ticked!

Understanding The 80/20 Rule Will Change Your Results Straight Away

Have you ever heard of the 80/20 rule? Chances are that this rule is impacting you right now even if you aren’t aware of it or how it works. The good news is that by becoming aware of the rule and how it applies to you right now will allow you to manipulate it and use it to help you get some awesome results! And we all want awesome results don’t we?

The 80/20 rule (which was created by Vilfredo Pareto by the way) says that 80% of what we achieve is a direct result of 20% of the actions we take. In this context, what it is telling us is that a small portion of the things we do each day create the majority of our outcomes. Now, the ratio may not really be 80/20 – it could even be 99/1 – but the point remains that there are a small number of certain activities you engage in each an every day which are creating most of your happiness (or unhappiness) and most of your results (whether they are good or bad).

This rule applies to more than just our “actions”; it actually applies to everything (according to Pareto). So let’s have a look at some very straightforward examples to help demonstrate this. I’m willing to bet that you spend 80% or more of your social time with 20% or less of the people you know (friends, family, acquaintances). What about 80% or more of the time you spend online is on 20% or less of all the websites you’ve ever visited? What about 80% or more of the phone calls you make are to 20% or less of all the contacts in your phone? Seriously, you can apply it to anything.

The first major thing to take away from the 80/20 rule is to understand that there is no point focusing on the 80% of things you do each day that are creating only 20% of your results. You need to do the opposite! Forget the 80% that is impacting 20% of your results, you want to focus only on the 20% that is impacting 80% of your results! Are you following? Clear as mud?

Clearly, there is no reason to spend your time doing things that account for only 20% of what you achieve, especially if that 20% takes up 80% of your time! Instead, you should focus on the 20% that is impacting 80% of your results. Focus on drastically improving your results by changing those areas that are having the most impact. For example, if you find that your biggest challenge is being disorganized then if that area was transformed you would find it would have a massive result wouldn’t it? So you change one thing but it impacts lots of things.

You’re probably wondering what your 20% areas are? You probably want to know which small areas you can change that will totally transform your results? The trick is that it could be many areas – each person is different. While we can’t cover them all, let’s look at three areas that impact all students because there is a good chance one or all will apply to you.

Your habits are a key 20% area. Your habits dictate your thoughts and your actions. Bad habits lead to bad results. Good habits lead to good results. It really is that simple! If you have gotten yourself into poor habits then unfortunately you will get poor results. The good news is that by identifying the bad habits and then changing them you can completely transform your outcomes. Small area, massive impact!

The next most cited problem is motivation levels. With a lack of motivation comes a lack of action. So if you can’t find a way to feel motivated it will have a significantly negative impact on your results. We all know how much we get done when we have no motivation – nothing! So again we can see that one small area (motivation) is greatly impacting on a big area (your results).

The next area is memory recall. If you can’t remember data and information very well then unfortunately you are going to struggle to get top marks. Tests and exams become far less daunting when you have honed your memory recall ability – and they are terrifying when you haven’t! You must be able to recall mountains of information in order to be successful because education tests memory as much as it tests knowledge. You would think they would have a subject called “memory” given how much focus there is on your memory recall ability! So again, we can see that a small area (your 20%) is impacting a huge part of your outcomes (your 80%).

Clearly, there are many areas that impact your results in schooling and your results in life for that matter. But by figuring out which areas are having the biggest impact you will be able to quickly change your results. Identify your personal 20% areas that are having a big influence on your outcomes and do something about them today. If you do, your grades will shoot up quickly. Get Motivated Today: Discover Your True Motivation

You may be wondering why you can’t “get motivated” or why you don’t “feel motivated” but if that sounds like you, you needn’t worry. You see, “getting motivated” is really just a myth. Motivation isn’t something you can turn on and off like a tap. Sure, you can watch a self-motivation video or read a self-help article like this one and feel full of passion and hope and have great dreams – and then all of a sudden you fall flat on your face. Life has got in the way again!

Real motivation (as in, you wake up every single day and you feel energized to take massive action towards what you want to achieve) occurs when you have a great desire to achieve something, you fully understand your ultimate destination and you’re willing to do whatever it takes to get there. How many of you feel that way every day?

But let’s focus on the mundane tasks we complete each day. It makes sense that if something is going to benefit us (and we understand what that benefit is and agree that it will benefit us), we will be far more likely to complete the task. If I want to learn to speak Chinese, then watching a “learn how to speak Chinese” video is something that will strongly interest me and I am very likely to watch it.

But if the task you have to complete has no benefit to you? How do you feel motivated when what you have to do is completely unrelated to what you are trying to achieve? Well, the reality is that you are likely to revolt against the task or the person asking you to do it. For example, if you want to learn Indonesian you are forced to learn Spanish, you are probably going to be pretty upset! Again, this makes perfect sense. You want to Indonesian, not Spanish. Therefore, there is no motivation to complete the activity.

So what are we left with? Clearly, when what you are doing isn’t consistent with what you are trying to achieve in life you will feel no motivation. As such, it is clear that what really matters is understanding why completing each task helps to get you closer to what you want to achieve. When you understand why you should do something and how it will help you, your motivation won’t be an issue.

The tasks you complete should always help you get closer to your ultimate ambition – and the good news is that most tasks do. What you really need to understand is how they do that. If you want to get a great job that you love and are paid well to do then what do you need to do? Why, get good grades of course! Because good grades equals good college equals good job. Isn’t that the line of thinking behind getting good grades? Perhaps you want freedom. You want to lie on a deserted beach somewhere sipping on cocktails. So how do you get that? Well, education equals learn about business equals start a business equals early retirement. But the fact is, you had to get an education in order to find your way to retirement didn’t you? You had to complete the tasks required first.

What do you really want from life? What are you determined to accomplish? Everyone wants different things. So what do you want – for you? If you aren’t sure what you are trying to achieve then it’s really no wonder at all that you don’t feel motivated! Conversely, if you are sure of what you want then take think again because if you really want it bad enough you should be willing to do anything to get it. If you understand what you want, the tasks simply become a means to an end. Complete the task and get closer to what you really want.

If you have to complete your Maths homework in order to get a good grade, in order to pass the subject, in order to pass the year, in order to get into College, then just do your Maths homework! Remember, it’s not about the task; it’s all about your grand ambition. Start by creating an ambition that is meaningful to you and then do what you have to do to achieve it. How easy would a test or exam be if you already knew the questions? Yes I know it would be even easier if you knew the answers but if you know the questions you should know the answers shouldn’t you?

A really effective way to prepare for your tests and exams is to become a test psychic and start predicting (with great accuracy) what the questions will be! A simple enough idea – but you’re probably thinking it would be pretty hard to execute right? Well, the answer is actually yes and no. Let’s take a look at the strategy of test question prediction.

Part 1 – Zero In on the Right Data

What do you believe is going to be on the test? There’s no point focusing on “everything” because it will take too long to review it all. Try the process of elimination (and inclusion). Are there things that you have learnt that clearly would not be on the test or exam? Are there things you have learnt that obviously would be on the exam?

Next, simply ask yourself where the questions are going to be coming from. The following is a list of obvious sources for any test or exam:

1. Obviously, the textbook you use will be a great source of information. However, take note of those chapters you just quickly go through (or ignore altogether) and those chapters that you seem to be spending a lot of time on. Hint!

2. If the teacher is providing you with worksheets and homework tasks there is a reason for this. Often these will be used to create questions that aren’t covered in the text book.

3. Class time is spent only on the most important and relevant topics. Full stop. Exclamation point! Teachers do not spend time on topics that won’t be covered on your assessments so take note of those chapters or areas that are most focused on during class time – and ditch the rest!

Part 2 – Keep Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer

Making friends with the teacher is one your biggest weapons – if executed correctly. Teachers will always reward those who try hard and give their best effort – and also those who are respectful towards them. It is human nature – and teachers are humans remember! (We think)

1. Go straight to the best source of all – the teacher. See if you can find out what material is going to be covered on the test by asking the teacher leading questions about what you are studying. “I am focusing on Chapter 12 – that’s a really important chapter isn’t it?” See what you can find out (no need to be sneaky you’re just doing an investigation here). This should help you narrow the field of potential questions.

2. Ask the teacher what format the questions will be in. True/false? Multiple choice? Short answer? Long answer essay style? Combination mix up? Obviously, the way in which a test is structured will impact on the way you study for it and what you need to have down pat. If it’s long answer, you need to be ready to write like a maniac. If you know its multiple choice you need to know lots of stacks of facts. Simple really!

3. Get hold of past tests or exams. These are usually invaluable resources – not simply because they show you how hard or easy past tests may have been – but also because they show you the format and structure that have been used in the past and what areas the teachers have focused on. Bonus tip: you don’t always need to fall into the trap of going through each question on past test papers, just use them as a guide because it’s extremely unlikely the questions on your test will be the same as past tests.

Part 3 – Your Review Habits

1. Create a workbook (or staple a few blank sheets together) that is used solely for noting likely test and exam questions. You will often come across topics and questions in class that will make you think to yourself, “that is definitely going to be on the test” and you need somewhere specific to write it down so you can find it easily later. This way, when you look at the workbook later it will help jog your memory.

2. Skim through your texts and underline or highlight the information you believe is the most important to the subject. Ignore anything you do not believe to be important. By doing this, you will have already chosen and highlighted the most important bits to re-read or re-examine later.

3. Get a group of “class geniuses” together and create a study group. Generally, it’s best to avoid having your friends in your study group because you won’t focus very well and will probably spend the whole time mucking around. If you all contribute to the group and use your time wisely a study group will really assist you. Why? Well study groups allow you to leverage of each other’s notes and ideas. You know what they say – two heads are better than one!

Study Habits – Go Through The Process To Quickly Achieve Your Goal

Question without notice: What and why are you trying to accomplish in your life? Just think about it for a moment. What and why. This is a really key question for all of us. The first step in achieving an ambition is establishing what the ambition is and also understanding why you want to achieve it. Often we know what we want to achieve (like get better grades – especially in Math – or lose some weight) but we don’t have the right reason to back it up. So, what is your goal and why do you want to achieve it?

At the next stage of goal setting we must ask ourselves not how are we going to achieve the goal but who do we need to become in order to achieve it? What specifically are the actions and mindset required to make the goal a reality? How does someone who has already achieved what we want to achieve act and behave? What values do they have? Are you being realistic in how you are going to achieve the goal you have set or will you just fumble through life hoping that by some happy accident all your dreams will come true?

In other words, do you improve yourself each day in order to become the person you need to be in order to achieve the goal you want to achieve – or do you change nothing and do nothing and just hope everything will somehow work out for the best? Remember, be honest!

Achieving a goal is a process not an event. The problem is that people don’t like processes – we like events! You see, we like to get an A+ on our Maths test, but we don’t want to do the study and homework required (i.e. the process) to get the A+, we just want the event – the great score! We like the idea of looking fit and healthy but we don’t like part where we have to eat well and exercise constantly. Do we? It all makes sense when you understand that we don’t like the process – we just like the events.

Getting good grades is hard work. Being fit and healthy is hard work. Being a great musician is hard work. The process of achievement always weeds out the weak – and unfortunately it doesn’t always reward the strong.

However, for those of us who make a choice to go through the process, the events are extra sweet. A top grade, getting into College, winning the Super Bowl, or running a four minute mile are all events that happened because the person made a decision and went through the process.

So what does this mean to us in terms of goal setting and goal achievement? Given that we now know that we don’t like processes and we do like events, it makes a lot of sense that we may enjoy setting goals such as “I want an A average in all of my subjects” but we don’t like doing the hard work to make sure that the goals actually happen. The process is hard and can be boring and tedious. We want the event (A average for every subject) not the hard work!

So, if you are going to set a goal, you really need to understand what process you are going to have to go through to achieve it and make sure you are committed to it. The event is secondary; the process is what you are really committing yourself to. You must ask yourself, “What actions will I have to take every day to go through the process? Who will I need to be to go through the process?” If you can’t answer that, you won’t be able to achieve the goal you have set.

Goals don’t just happen. They are clearly defined and then deliberately worked towards. You create an event (an A+ in Maths) and then you have to go through the process to get there. Focus on the process and the event will happen. Focus on the event (like everyone wants to) and nothing will happen. The choice is yours!

Help Me Study By Reducing My Stress

Stress Is Natural

Stress is felt by almost everyone (and we have a feeling those that don’t experience it are probably sitting on a deserted beach somewhere sipping on an ice-cold cocktail), so to experience stress and be impacted by stress is completely normal and understandable.

What is really relevant here is how we respond to the feeling of stress. All of us can have feelings of impatience, irritation, annoyance and anger from time to time – but the way in which we react to those stimuli defines our ability to cope with stress.

High levels of stress can really obscure our judgement and result in us behaving in ways that we would not otherwise behave. Behaviors such as anger, aggression, frustration and edginess all result from high stress levels. This change in behavior almost always impacts on the people around us – whether that is school mates, other friends or family members. However it can also impact total strangers if we are stressed enough.

When stressed behavior becomes a regular action, it quickly turns itself into a habit. That’s right – stress can become a habit. A habit that’s hard to break and a habit that has no redeeming features if left to rule our lives.

Stress-induced habits and behaviors that have a negative impact must be replaced by positive action. High achievement does not result from an inability to cope with high stress levels; it results from calm and calculated responses to stressful stimulus.

The Problem: The Voice Inside Me Puts Me Down

We all have a voice inside us that dictates our thoughts and actions. When that voice is constantly being negative, judgmental and frightened (of embracing life) it leads to an unfulfilled life and a pessimistic outlook and approach to life.

Negative self-dialogue creates a negative self-fulfilling prophecy. What this means is that the negative self-dialogue creates an outlook that “everything is negative” and “everything that happens is negative” thereby resulting in a completely miserable life experience. However, this is just a result of a negative perception – it’s not “the truth”. In other words, if someone believes their life is stressful, then it’s stressful! If they don’t believe it’s stressful then it’s not stressful! See how perception creates reality?

This perception may not seem like a big deal but it can actually be very destructive – both for the individual and for those around them. Particularly so given that those with negative outlooks tend to group together (usually because those with positive outlooks can’t stand being in the presence of those with negative outlooks) and continue to wallow in each other’s negatively skewed view of the world.

The Solution: Positive Self-Talk

Positive self-talk (just like negative self-talk) is an extremely powerful force if harnessed correctly. When thinking positively about life and being in a constant state of positivism about yourself and others around you, your life will become a far more enjoyable experience. Those who use positive self-talk actually create a better life for themselves because their outlook greatly impacts on the actions they take. Again, it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy – but this one works for you, never against you. Amazingly, a habit of optimism and positivism can actually bring you a much brighter future.

Regardless of what your perception is telling you right now (that this is a lame idea of that it’s a great idea) the reality is that a positive attitude leads to less stress – even though the situation itself has not changed at all. Regular positive and uplifting self-dialogue such as “I will succeed”, “I will overcome this challenge”, “I will prevail” or “My life always turns out for the best” will serve you in good times and bad. By making these positive thoughts your regular and consistent reaction to any challenge, your life will be better. No doubt about it. Don’t believe me? Try it the next time you fail, or the next time you get criticized, or the next time you feel stressed out. They try it every day for a week, then every week for a month. I promise you that you will be amazed at what your new positive perception can accomplish.

By seeking to understand what is causing our stress we are much better equipped to find solutions and take action to turn things around. Study Habits: Unlock Your Memory Recall By Thinking About Yourself

The ability to remember a vast amount of data and information is vital to students and can truly be the difference between passing and failing a subject. So it’s no wonder that there is so much focus on maximizing our memory ability!

But how does our memory actually work? How come we can remember some information without any effort at all (often useless information like the names and theme songs of the cartoons we watched when we were children) yet often we when really want to remember certain things for tests or assignments we draw a blank?

The truth is, our memory works in precisely the manner that it is supposed to work. The real issue is that we have very little understanding (or no understanding at all) of the way it operates and how we can manipulate it to our advantage.

The approach that most students take to memorization (re-reading information or repeating information many times over) is not consistent with the way that the mind creates memory recall. Nonetheless, we just keep on using this technique desperately hoping that something will stick! Unfortunately, while you may retain some small amounts of data this way, it’s a really silly approach when you understand how your memory really works.

The smart approach to memory recall is to first take the time to learn how your memory works and then manipulate your memory (in a good way!) in order to recall exactly what you need to remember for that next test or exam.

There are many ways to increase the power of your memory recall. This article looks at just one – the “All about me” technique. The rule of this technique is that when you make something about you, the ability to remember the information is drastically increased.

When it comes to memory, your brain always wants to know “How does this relate to me?” or put even more simply “Why should I even bother storing this as a memory?”

The fact is, if something seems important to you personally, you will be more likely to remember it – and you’ll also remember it more vividly and in far greater detail.

Don’t believe me? Think about it. What things do you remember? Those things that have some direct impact on your life (like what time you need to meet your friends at the movies this weekend) or those things that have zero impact on your life (like your mom’s favorite ice cream flavor?) You remember those things, people, places, prices, products and details of anything that is going to impact your life in some way.

I’m not suggesting this happens because you want it to happen. It’s just a natural part of being human – it’s on autopilot. When something is significant to you, the memory of it sticks. But it’s not enough to understand this rule. You also need to apply it to your studies don’t you? So let’s see how this can help you improve your recall.

In economics you learn about trends. Trends impact purchase power of individuals. Purchase power impacts your ability to go and that new pair of shoes you really want. So, does it make it easier to understand economic trends when you understand how it impacts you?

What about learning about different cultures, beliefs and customs than yours? If you were to think about your own culture, beliefs and customs then you can easily compare the two to each other. Now, if you compare them to yourself you will remember them wont you?

If you are trying to remember names and dates just focus on how do these names and dates relate to you. Ask yourself, “Do I know anyone by those or similar names? Do I like the name for some reason or do I think it’s a weird name? Why is that? Did the people or dates that I have to remember ever impact my life in any way? Did anything happen on those dates that relates to me personally?”

The point is, take what you need to learn and make it about you. Most people enjoy being self-centered anyway so just extend on your natural inclination! Why Sleep Is The Difference Between Passing And Failing

What do you know about sleep? It’s that fancy thing you do when there’s nothing else going on? It’s what happens when all the lights go out? But what do you really know about it? The amount of sleep you get each night has a significant impact on you and how your engine runs during the day. Lack of sleep means lack of – well everything.

If you get very little sleep (let’s say 5-6 hours a night or less) then you are going to feel sluggish, lazy, moody, impatient, intolerant, and generally very unproductive. In fact, you could say that not getting enough sleep actually changes you. It makes you a lesser version of yourself.

But what happens when you’ve had a good 7-8 (or even 9) hours of sleep? Well, generally you’re the complete opposite! Upbeat, happy, enthusiastic, more tolerant, more creative, more productive, much healthier – much more everything! You’re a better person to be around. You probably even like yourself more. Makes a pretty big difference doesn’t it?

If you’re getting 7-8 hours of sleep every night then well done! You’re doing well and you’re giving yourself the best chance to succeed and be super productive each day. If you’re not, then you can start taking action today by changing your sleeping habits using these tips.

Tip number one. We all know about the lure of staying up late – but it’s a trap. We’re sitting up watching a movie or surfing the net and we know that if we don’t go to bed tomorrow won’t come yet and we won’t have to go to work or school! It’s our free time and we want to make the most of it. The problem of course is that by staying up late we are killing our energy levels for the next day. The time you get up can’t be moved back (otherwise you’d be late) so change the time you get to bed. You’ll be glad you did if you stick to it.

Tip number two. Stop stimulating your brain just before bed. If you watch TV or listen to loud music or go on the net, you’re stimulating your brain when it needs to be shutting down. Instead, just sit quietly for 10 or 15 minutes and relax. It’s a very simple thing to do and 10 minutes of quite time won’t make a big difference – but watching hours of TV when you should be sleeping will!

Tip number three. If you have thoughts running through your mind write them down and get them out of your system. Once all your thoughts are written down on paper (or put in your laptop or into your notepad in your cell phone) you’ll be amazed at how quickly you can nod off.

Tip number four. Have a power nap. If you’re super tired during the day don’t deprive yourself of sleep. If you’re in Maths class and you’re bored then just doze off. Just kidding! Don’t do that. But if you can have a 10-15 minute kip at some point (preferably not during class) it will really boost your energy levels.

Tip number five. Pick one day of the week to hit the sack early. If you go day after day getting to bed late and not getting enough sleep you will eventually crack. It could even be a major meltdown! No one can be at their best when they don’t catch up on sleep. So plan to catch it up. Pick a day each week that you will hit the sack early and just stick to it like glue. It will make a world of difference.

If you do nothing else, make sure you find a way to make sleep a priority in your life. It’s truly amazing what a difference a good night’s sleep can have. Help Me Study And Get Motivated

The single biggest reason cited for not competing tasks is the lack of motivation. If you’re like everybody else in the entire universe (and you are) then at one point or another you will lack the motivation to do something. Welcome to the club. There are about 6 billion human members plus a few million animals as well (that’s right animals can be lazy too).

Whilst a lack of motivation may not be your biggest challenge personally, it is one of the biggest challenges that students face as they try to find the strength of character to push through high school and College.

When you don’t have the proper motivation to complete a task, the task can quickly become a painful and cumbersome chore – rather than a fairly straightforward process. Why?

If you lack the feeling of motivation, your focus will be low, your effort will be down and your output will suffer the consequences. But when you are feeling motivated the amount of work you can complete is astronomical, your effort is through the roof, the challenges seem small and anything seems possible! It’s a feeling we’d all love to have all the time. So how does it come about?

As a general rule, most people are operating on the base level of motivation – which is fear of negative consequences. What do I mean by this? Well, we act out of concern about what will happen if we don’t act. For example, you may complete your homework because if you don’t you will be grounded. You may strive to get an A on your Maths test because if you don’t your average will drop which will impact your ability to get into University or College. It’s not necessarily a “bad thing” but it’s the way we are conditioned to behave.

If there was no deadline and no consequence for not handing a paper in on time, would we ever even hand it in? Would we even start the stinking paper? Would anyone ever do anything they didn’t want to do?

Fear of negative consequences has its place in the world. It’s important in its own way – however it should absolutely not be the ultimate reason for you to do whatever it is you do each day. It should not dictate your behavior. That’s not living. That’s just “existing”.

If you want to really find your bliss in life you need to find a way to find the positive reason for why you’re doing whatever you’re doing (and this doesn’t just apply to your schooling – it applies to all areas of life).

True motivation is when you don’t act out of fear, but instead you act out of possibilities. You act out of the possibility of what doing the task may bring to your life. The possibility of wealth (there are more forms of wealth than just monetary), the possibility of health, the possibility of love, or the possibility of some form of prosperity. This is the entire foundation for positive motivation – and the real kicker is that it’s more powerful than any form of negative motivation could ever be.

Each time you do anything, you need only ask yourself one question. Is this act an act of possibility or an act of fear? Unfortunately, most of us act out of fear. Find your possibility and you will have found your true motivating force. Once you find that, the rest will seem like a pleasure. Good luck!

What Successful Students Do And How You Can Easily Do It Too

We all love studying don’t we? Nothing better than good old studying. That’s what you’re thinking right? Can’t wait to hit the books each night after school? Yes? No? What do you mean am I crazy?

We want you to maximize every minute spent studying and as a result maximize every minute you don’t have to study! That’s right; we want you to study less. Every day. We want you to study less by learning how to power study – to study with super powerful efficiency and effectiveness which will cut the amount of time spent studying down to nothing! OK, that’s a lie – but you get the drift. You have to study anyway, so why not learn how to learn more in less time?

So what are we waiting for? Let’s get cracking on the new habits you are going to introduce and start putting into practise from today. Here they come – are you ready for them?

Successful students:

Never Over-Study

As soon as you spend too much time studying you will quickly lose focus and the time spent studying will become ‘junk time’. This is when you think you’re studying but you’re just sitting there re-reading the same sentence about 1000 times. You’re ‘studying’, but you’re not getting anywhere with your work. You’re just a mouse on the wheel. Round and round you go! Instead of this, take regular breaks. We suggest a 15 minute break for every 30 minutes of work completed. Sound good? For every hour you spend studying you get 30 minutes off! Why do this? Well, taking breaks will restore your energy and refresh your mind – plus it will give your mind some time to take in what you have been doing. But don’t spend your time thinking about what you’ve been doing. No, no, no, instead you should allow your mind to rest by doing something completely different – like dance around the room to that lame song you like. Finally, don’t study for more than 45 minutes in any one sitting. Why? Your brain will switch off at around about the 45 minute mark. So if you keep studying after that you’re just playing ball in junk time again.

Plan Their Study

Successful students actually plan what they are going to do during their study time. As in, they actually plan the time they will be studying and they set goals for what they will achieve during their study. For example, your new habit could be saying ‘I will study from 5 o’clock to 6.30 pm with a 15 minute break at 5.45 pm. At 6.30 pm I will have done all my maths worksheets and my history homework. I will then go online and get some solid Facebook time under my belt. Planning is no joke. If you want to be successful, do what successful students do. Create a plan, establish a goal and then stick to it like super glue. By having set times for doing work each day it will create a routine for you and as every good teacher will tell you, a routine is the first step towards developing a habit. And this habit is good. When you know that you have committed to work at a specific time each day you will be mentally prepared for it. You will know that 5 o’clock is study time. Just like you know 7 o’clock is dinner time (for some people!). Goal setting is also important. If you sit down with no clear thoughts about what you’re trying to achieve during your study time you will just pointlessly drift along without knowing if you’ve done what you’re supposed to do. So, create a target to achieve and focus your energy towards it. You won’t regret it!

Front Up To The Toughest Work First

Many of us like to do the easy things first to build our confidence. That’s fair enough. Gets the blood pumping when you’re ticking items off your to-do list. BANG! 1st item ticked off. BANG! Double tick that item – now I’m rolling. DOUBLE BANG! Triple tick that item – list completed and life is good. The only challenge with this approach is that you use up your prime energy at the start of any study session and so if you are tackling the easy parts with your prime energy your batteries will be low when it comes time to tackle the hard part. So what happens then? You get tired, impatient, flustered and just give up. We all do it. We really shouldn’t though. So get in the habit of giving your prime energy to the hard tasks and completing the easy stuff last.

Get Off Social Networking Sites, Gaming Sites and Turn Their TV Off (Music Might Be OK)

This one is self explanatory. Just turn them off for an hour and we promise the world will still be there when you log back in to Facebook! (if it wasn’t that would be pretty weird huh?) Don’t text your friends, don’t Instant Message that girl or boy you have a crush on whilst also doing your homework, don’t make phone calls because your’e bored, just focus on what you’re doing! Even if you focus on work for 15 minutes followed by 5 mins of sending texts to everyone on earth, it’s better than 30 minutes of work whilst also sending texts at the same time. It’s a good idea to reward yourself for any study completed, but you really should do some work to earn that reward. You agree right?

P.S. Music can be great as a nice soothing background noise when studying – and even helpful for study in some instances, but techno music cranking so loud your walls shake isn’t the best idea you’ve ever had. There is simply no way you can focus when you do that.

Actually Ask For Help

If you don’t know what the heck you’re doing just ask someone – a teacher, parent, friend, sibling, cat that always hangs around even though it’s not your cat, a clown, a bus driver. Seriously, just ask for help. Don’t feel embarrassed or stupid – the most important thing is getting the task completed isn’t it? What difference does it make if you have to ask for help? Wouldn’t you rather do a good job? If you don’t ask, you won’t know. Frustration can be easily avoided, but sometimes we have to suck up the ego and ask for help.

Clean Up Their Act

Seriously – do your work in a neat and tidy place. Don’t study in a cesspool of your own muck. Work on a table or a desk. Have a place for all of your books and materials. Have a system of filing and order that you actually understand! You should always know where everything you need is and you should not have to wade through dirty underwear or 1991 Michael Jordan rookie cards to find it. I know, crazy concept huh? It’s not cool to not be able to see your bed because there are mountains of junk all over your room (although if you live in that situation we know you think it’s cool). A clean environment makes a happy human. You want to be a happy human don’t you?
