Your Past Does Not Ever Control Your Future

Listened to a radio advert or read one in a paper for some investment fund, they have that tiny section to claim, ‘past performance doesn't guarantee future performance’.

Isn’t it curious that we straight away say that this is to cover the negative eventuality that the fund starts losing cash, it is clear that they could also do better than formerly naturally this is less sure with funds that over inflated their past performance.

What has this got to do with you? Well the same is true for you, me and the rest of the globe, but with a twist.

Most folks at some particular point in their life look back on things from their past and consider things they failed at, or that they were not good at, and decide that this means they cannot do it and won't.

Sure this may be the case for flying unaided, or running quicker than Usain Bolt , but for the more pragmatic things in life this is just wrong. Taking 1 or 2 examples of not doing well at something as proof you are no good at it is insanity we would all still be crawling if that were correct.

All talents learned have to a degree an element of trial, mistake and learning or there would be little need for schools or the education system, which try to teach not only skills but strategies for learning.

O.K, so lets say you buy into the principle that we learn from our mistakes, and it is not our mistakes that define us, rather our learning from them. Did you know all of the beliefs in yourself, about others and the world, you're living your life from each and every day?

The stunning thing is that we are neither aware of all of the sentiments we walk around with that were formed from past failures, that are currently dictating our experience of the planet. What is worse they may have served us during the past, but we infrequently question them or are even mindful of them.

Take for example that you were told by your parents, ‘don’t talk to strangers ‘, drummed into you repeatedly in your formative years. It is clear that you may well be carrying about with you the assumption that strangers are somehow perilous. Imagine the impact that would have on someone's life…

Be open to the possibility that life set backs, mistakes and failures during the past, are in some way a learning experience to help succeed. Because unlike a financial fund you can learn something from your mistakes, it is up to you what you do with that learning.
