What Are The Best Fish Oil Supplements? Here’s What You Should Consider

If you’re looking for Omega 3 supplements, or what are otherwise called fish oil supplements, you might be asking yourself what is the best fish oil?

Of course this question makes the assumption that not all fish oil is the same, because if there is a “best” fish oil then you’re assuming that others aren’t as good.

And you’d be perfectly correct in that assumption. It is quite true to say that the quality of fish oil supplements varies from one to the other.

Many people simply buy their supplements on the basis of price. If one brand of Omega 3 capsules is cheaper than another that’s the one they buy. However I’m sorry to say it’s not quite so simple.

There is in fact a range of factors to take into consideratiojn before deciding what is the best fish oil. Here’s several to think about, though there’s more.

The first thing to remember is that you’re not buying fish oil. You are actually buying the DHA and EPA contained in the fish oil, because those are the Omega 3 essential fatty acids. They’re just found in fish oil.

And so if you’re looking for the best fish oil the obvious question is how much DHA and EPA are you getting? Because 1000 milligrams of oil might actually contain very little DHA and EPA.

And in fact the amount of DHA and EPA in the supplements you’re buying is one of the most crucial factors to consider. Most fish oil capsules are what is known as 18/12 capsules. What this means is that 18 percent of the oil is EPA and 12 percent is DHA. So in other words in one 1000 milligrams capsule you’re getting 180 milligrams of EPA and 120 milligrams of DHA.

Remember, that’s all you’re looking to get, the rest is just filler.

If all capsules were 18/12 then you might be able to compare on price. However they aren’t. In fact there are wide variations in the amount of DHA and EPA that you’re getting in different brands of capsules. The best fish oil capsules in fact contain 2 1/2 times as much DHA as your regular 18/12 capsule, and much more EPA.

So as you can see even if the best capsules were 2 1/2 times the price of your regular 18/12 capsules they actually are actually the same price as your regular capsules if you compare them on the amount of active ingredients that you’re getting.

And there’s a wide range of other factors to consider if you’re asking yourself what are the best fish oil supplements.
