Use This Effective Martial Arts Heavy Bag Workout To Increase Power

This martial arts heavy bag workout drill is a very effective method to build more speed, more power, and greater coordination. A fighter needs the ability to throw more punches than his opponent. But, power is as important as is speed because the punch thrown with power will incapacitate the opponent.

Fighters need not only speed and power, but also coordination so that the fighter can throw effective, powerful, fast punches. The heavy bag drill will increase the fighter’s stamina, and cardiovascular strength. This drill can be worked on with a partner or a fighter can choose to work out on his own.

The objective of the drill is to throw as many punches as one possibly can during a sixty minute set. The fighter will build speed as well as stamina with this drill. Sixty seconds might sound like a short interval, but for the person throwing punches as fast as possible, this is a long time.

Throw a variety of punches during the sixty second interval. Throw jabs, body shots, and hooks, in other words mix up the routine. Throwing a variety of punches helps build coordination and helps the mind think about the next punch. This routine builds muscle power, but it also builds mind power, which some fighters believe is the most important aspect of competitive fighting.

Some training fighters will become winded during this routine and lose proper technique. Be disciplined with each punch. Use proper stance and correct technique on each punch rather than simply hitting the bag with speed, but little power.

Stand a proper distance from the bag, not too close because this can impair one’s stance. If working out with a partner, he should hold the bag to keep it from swinging out of striking range. Have a relaxed, yet firm stance. Try and increase the number of punches thrown, however, remember to keep punches consistent and keep proper fighting stance throughout the drill.

A martial arts heavy bag workout should be incorporated into every fighter’s training regimen because this work out builds speed, power, and stamina. A fighter can do this exercise with a partner, or alone. The purpose is to throw as many punches, power punches, as possible in a one minute period.
