Things Covered In An Annual Health Check Up

The age-old adage that health is wealth is never wrong. Our well-being is important to us and so is getting an annual health check up. The entire procedure can last from 15 minutes to an hour. The wait is usually longer when there are many people in line. Waiting in line is, however, a small price to pay in exchange for keeping oneself healthy.

Since the annual health check up is only once a year, almost all aspects of our well-being are checked. Blood pressure is regularly checked when you visit a doctor. During the annual exam, the baseline will be provided for you. This should be the value you maintain over the next year.

Height and weight will also be checked. Age will not matter as older people regularly experience a decrease in height. When this occurs, it is a sign of osteoporosis. Weight is more difficult to assess. This is because gaining weight and losing weight can be caused by various issues.

If there is a drastic weight gain, it is possible that you have incurred heart, kidney or liver disease. For weight loss, the cause may be depression, infection or cancer. Additionally, insomnia or lack of sleep can either induce weight gain or weight loss. It is important that you mention anything useful to the doctor. Any kind of information can help assess your personal well-being and help the doctor draw a conclusion.

Blood tests are also vital in a yearly exam. Blood chemistry will tell you things like glucose levels, cholesterol, triglycerides and many more. These data can be used to diagnose various problems like diabetes, thyroid disease and kidney failure.

X-rays are also recommended by doctors but are usually optional. Chest x-rays, in particular, help detect any lung problems as well as problems with the ribcage and heart. Getting a chest x-ray is highly suggested as it provides a lot of information.
