Spiritual Life Coaching – Symptoms of a Kundalini Activation

Some initiates into a Kundalini activation have no prior understanding or context of the spiritual path (at least in the current life) and therefore the experience can be shocking and somewhat debilitating. Adding to their confusion and bewilderment, health care professionals still regard phenomena associated with spiritual emergence as indicative of pathology because the signs are so easily confused with the symptoms of psychosis, mania, depression, schizophrenia or borderline personality disorder.

Because the Kundalini arousal involves a reintegration of self, it can also be perplexing to the significant other of the initiate if they are not familiar with the symptoms and process of a spiritual emergence. With the opening up of the third eye, a Kundalini initiate may experience precognition, telepathy, telekinesis, and the awareness of auras and healing abilities. He or she will appear to be in their own world, and in a sense, they will indeed.

During a Kundalini awakening, an initiate may shift into altered states of consciousness where they directly perceive the realm of unity consciousness (truth) underlying the world of separation (illusion) and experience a profound sense of peace deeply within. In some cases, the psychological upheaval of a Kundalini awakening is so acute that it may resemble a psychotic episode. Because the signs are so easily confused with the indicators of psychosis, many initiates undergoing a spiritual emergency are misdiagnosed and treated with suppressive drugs which may complicate their transformational process.

So how does the Kundalini initiate receive support if not from the medical community? The greatest benefit to an initiate during a Kundalini arousal is a supportive counselor or mentor who can help him or her to make sense of the intricate connection between spirit (pranic energy) and the movement of physical energy in the body, rather than fearing they are going insane. There are numerous spiritual counselors available on the internet to help the initiate get through their metamorphosis but it would be advisable to take the time to seek out a counselor who has had already experienced the Kundalini awakening personally. Therefore, he or she will be able to counsel from first-hand experience.

It is empowering to the initiate to fully understand that a Kundalini awakening is a completely normal and natural process that every human will have, either in this life or another. We are all destined to transform. The Kundalini arousal for humans is much like the cocoon for the caterpillar that allows it to transform into the butterfly or moth. When the initiate fully comprehends that it is just as natural as that, then he or she may be able to relax and allow the awakening to transpire in its own time and on its own volition.

One important thing to remember: The awakening process will be much easier if the initiate surrenders to the Kundalini and trusts her unconditionally. She knows what she is doing. Her intention is not to hurt you, only to transform you.
