Advice In How To Perform A First Class Keynote Speech

Making a speech in public is a mega daunting task, particularly if you’ve never made one before! A keynote speech can be made at any event. As a common example, if you are best man at a wedding. Stop for a moment if the prospect of making a keynote speech terrifies you. Enjoy a few tips on delivering a great speech.

Know your subject matter

No-one likes to listen to someone that hasn’t a clue what they are on about. In all seriousness, know what you are talking about. Let’s face it, if you are the best man at a wedding, you should probably know about the groom already. Even if you don’t get on with the wife, getting to know her for a good speech is a fair sacrifice. If you have the responsibility of a business speaker at an event of conference, do your research. If you have to give a speech on a product or service, learn every aspect of it before the event. Try and test the product or service. The internet is a good basis for research. Any well known product or service will have a complimentary website. For generic products or services, why not try Youtube or Wikipedia? If the product is well known, try Wikipedia or even Youtube for further information.

Research the audience

Interacting with your audience is super important. Frankly if you sit up and drone on for an hour, the audience will be bored stiff. They won’t get your message, because they won’t be listening. With this, do try and avoid giving a bad speech. Find out about your audience. What companies do they work for? Can you find any common interests? Is there anything you can help them with? Get the audience participating and helping you along. Visual aids are a good idea. Powerpoint could be used. Sometimes it can be a difficult choice to decide whether to allow the audience to participate. It does depend on the type of audience. Bringing up confident participants can work great. Don’t do what some speakers do and pick the nervous members of the audience. They won’t come back.

Work for your employer

Whether you are getting free drinks, or presenting an important speech to your clients, it’s important to work for them. If you need to sell to them, make sure you do it as best and non-aggressively as possible. When promoting a product, give it your best shot. Should you fail, don’t expect to be asked to give a speech again.

Practising equals best preparation

Being unprepared is the worse thing you can be when giving a keynote speech. The most skilled keynote speakers will practise over and over again. How about using cue cards? Commit the speech to memory. If you lose your way, don’t fret, use your cue cards. So whether you are speaking at wedding, or making a motivational speech to your sales team- best of luck!
