3 Things You Need to Know Before Buying Kettlebells!

There are 3 important things I learnt the hard way about inexpensive kettlebells I’ll go through them with you here in the hope that it saves you time, money and agony.

Weld Lines on the Kettlebell Handle

The handles on cheap kettlebells aren't always smooth the entire way around, they can have weld lines which have not been correctly ground back to smooth or powder coated in the right way. The affect of this is to form massive friction with your hands when carrying out kettlebell swings and snatches. This leads to tearing and blisters and is certain to impact your training and even worse your mind.

Solution: purchase a seamless handle kettlebell or a pro grade kettlebell.

Uneven Weight Distribution Around the Kettlebell

As you’re well aware the kettlebell is round with a handle, it’s for that reason that the kettlebells are so effective for ballistic exercises such as snatches, swings, cleans and jerks. When you hold the handle of a kettlebell, in order to perform correct technique it is extremely important that the ball section has an even distribution of weight, if it is heavier on the right than it is on the left then your technique will suffer presumably resulting in injury.

Solution: purchase a better quality kettlebell from a credible manufacturer that carries out quality guarantee on their products. (It took me a bit to find one)

Hollow Adjustable Kettlebells

These can be crammed with sand or lead shot or even pebbles if you are desperate. They are definitely a rather cool concept but unless you would like to be weighing, emptying and refilling your kettlebells dependent on what exercise you do you are much better off purchasing a range of sizes. I’ll tell you what the experts recommend regarding kettlebell sizing later, for now I would not purchase a hollow kettlebell and feel that they are kind of a novelty. Personally I like working out with a goal and progressing towards that goal each session, using a hollow kettlebell makes this harder than it needs to be. For some I understand that these could be a great option if you have awfully limited space or spare bags of lead shot lying around but for ease of use and precision of weight they’re not for me.

My name is Justin Miller I’m thirty six years in age , you would think that by this age I would know better but I got caught out by purchasing the cheapest kettlebells I could find instead than the best kettlebells for sale.
