3 Common Chemicals Found In Most Inorganic Skin Care Products

The skin is the largest organ on the human body and it is highly absorbent. It is a two-way membrane which both excretes toxins and absorbs toxins, along with chemicals, and just about everything that it comes in contact with. The idea behind organic, all natural skin care–including organic soap, natural lip gloss, and much more–is along the same lines as organic dietary care. The things that we introduce into our bodies can affect us, positively or negatively. Many people who would not eat unorganic food and numerous people also do not want to expose their largest organ to unnatural products.

There are many chemicals in skin care products that are absolutely restricted to take orally. Yet, they are allowed in skin care products and the skin easily absorbs these chemicals. When these chemicals are absorbed by the skin they can easily make their way into the blood stream. Organic soaps, lotions, body washes, and other all natural skin care products do not contain artificial ingredients and harmful chemicals. However, there are not strict regulations on what can be considered “all natural” so it is important to check the ingredients listed on the label of any skin care products that you use. Below are three common, yet harmful and unnatural ingredients, that are found in many skin care products.

Parabens – These are very commonly used preservatives in cosmetics, face and body washes and moisturizers, and other skin care products. Butylparaben, propylparaben, and methylparaben are commonly listed parabens. It has been reported by the EPA that parabens are linked to the estrogenic effect, and medical research shows that estrogen can stimulate diseases like breast cancer. Using organic soap, lip gloss, and other all natural cosmetics is a simple way to decrease your risk of coming in contact with these dangerous synthetic preservatives.

Phthalates – Both the EPA and the Department of Health and Human Services state that this toxic chemical is a likely carcinogen. It has also been linked to causing many different types of severe allergic reactions in its users. It is a very, very commonly used chemical in lotions because it helps the lotions rapidly absorb into skin. Dibutylphthalate, diethylphthalate, and butyl ester are some of the commonly listed phthalates that are found in inorganic skin care products.

Artifical Fragrances – These are in the vast majority of non-organic skin care products. Many skin care companies use them simply because they are much more affordable than the actual natural scents. These synthetic chemicals may replicate the aroma of scents like lavender, but they are actually made of either coal or petroleum. When choosing organic soaps, lotions, body washes, or perfumes, you are getting the scent from the real source.
