Mosman Personal Training: Fitness Trainer – Create Relationships For Long Term Clients and Profits

Your personal trainer can be an amazingly positive force in your life – especially when it comes to meeting your fitness goals. It will be tempting to treat your trainer like a friend. After all, it’s their job to provide you with the exact type of mental and emotional support that a close friend would.

Here are Some Tips to Help You Understand if you are “Taking Care” of your Client and Creating a Long Term Relationship with Them: First, let me start by asking you some questions. Do you know how many clients you have? Did you do a fitness assessment with them? Do you know what each client fitness goal is? Do you know how much weight they have lost? Do you know what kind of workout you did with them on the last visit? Do you offer any incentives for achievement? Do you send them weekly/monthly weight loss tips or a fitness newsletter? Do you drop them a call from time to time to check on them?

Workout partners should be of equal or slightly higher skill level than you. My client Margaret plays competitive tennis. At her urging, Margaret convinced her best friend and next-door neighbor to start training with her. Did I mention that the neighbor had never picked up a racket before? This is a recipe for disaster. Strangely, Margaret started playing “down” to her friend’s skill level and didn’t get the workout she wanted. Her friend steadily lost confidence (and interest) playing with someone so advanced. It was a no-win situation and didn’t last long. I ended up finding Margaret a compatible workout partner. She needed someone who would challenge her, not give up easily and push her to raise the level of her tennis game. Workout partners should also be able to communicate clearly with each other. Just like the relationship between a client and a personal trainer, there needs to be an element of “tough love.” This requires honesty, commitment and excitement about your workouts.

You can even invest in Personal Trainer software, that will help you stay super organized! Software like this will allow you to give your clients custom diet plans, at home workouts, tips, advice, fitness news, workout journals and allow you to track the progress of each client. It makes you look very professional and puts you 10 light years ahead of other personal trainers. Keeping good records on your clients ensures you won’t forget why they have come to see you in the first place. Sometimes we get really busy with so many clients, it’s impossible to remember what’s going on with each one. Knowing what the client needs are and being able to show them you are addressing those needs will help you keep your clients for a very long time.

Yes, as Fitness Trainers we have to be motivators too! They will love you for the appreciation that you show them. When clients feel like they have a relationship with you and they are appreciated they stay loyal clients for a long time.
