Is the Asus Vw242h Gaming Monitor Up to Par?

Aspect ratio control buttons are greyed out unless the computer monitor detects a reduced resolution than its entertainment-friendly Full High definition (1,920 x 1,080), doubtless a blessing to people who are confused from this kind of thing. When the resolution is lower but widescreen, the Asus will either display it 1:1 or attempt to scale it without aspect distortion, while a non-widescreen resolution can lead to being offered the selection between Full (resulting in a very horrible stretched image) or 4:3. Most of all, how does the VW242H’s image quality hold up? As always with TN-based displays, you will discover positives and negatives. Over the plus side, horizontal viewing angles aren’t the worst and backlight bleed is practically nonexistent. After playing with saturation settings, colours are relatively vibrant without having to be oversaturated.

Unfortunately, noticeable banding and also a slight shortage of sharpness (regardless of this setting at 100 %) combine with average greyscale performance and slight dithering to take some of the sheen off the VW242H’s performance. To be honest it’s not worse than many TNs and for most needs the image quality could be deemed good enough, yet it doesn’t surprise on any level.

The opposite can be said of the 2W included speakers, that are much better than we’d normally expect, creating relatively rich audio at reputable volume levels without recognizable distortion. Also, they even managed a hint of bass, all while maintaining a rare level of depth and clarity. In fact, we’d go as much as to state it’s the best audio performance from a budget monitor yet, though that isn’t to say it might replace even half-decent headphones or discrete speakers.

Value is yet another strong point on this display. Although the average price for this is above the 210 mark, bringing it in step with most monitors sporting this type of size and connectivity, it can be found for under 190 online.

Verdict

Even for a TN-based model image quality is above par, however the Asus VW242H provides a surprisingly good audio performance at an attractive price and contains many of the input and output options you might need. If you are on a tight budget you could potentially do far worse.

By now you should see how good of quality the monitor is after my asus vh242h review, as it may be important for your gaming monitor purchase, or quite possible a different item! I’ve done the research at my own monitors for gaming site. I also track the best deals so take a look!
