How Much Electrical Energy Do You Waste On A Daily Basis?

Any time I ask this question of anyone, they always get very defensive, saying that they don’t squander electricity. It’s not hard to not even see when you’re using way too much electricity because of your habits. I would like to discuss some common habits that use up a lot of electricity, and what you can do to correct them.

Most of have a usual practice that uses a good deal of extra electricity. Have you ever forgotten a load of laundry in the dryer overnight after it has finished drying? At that point, individuals (including men) will go over to the dryer, open the door and discover that several of the clothes are all wrinkly. Most people turn the dryer on again for another cycle, thinking that this will take the crinkles out, rather than using an iron. Compared to an iron, a dryer consumes a huge amount of electricity, which is totally wasted when your clothes are already dry.

And ladies, don’t become upset as men squander a lot of electricity also. When a man is intent in his work, he can overlook a few obvious things. The men may be in the garage busily working on something and go out to go grab something and leave all the lights turned on in the garage, and perhaps even the radio. That isn’t the worst problem, however. Most men, when they leave the garage, will continue to work on something else and forget about everything they left turned on in the garage. At least, until they have to go back to the garage for something and then they find out that everything is still turned on.

Many people will leave lights on when they aren’t needed. This might happen at night, but can likewise happen in the morning when you awaken and switch on lights because it is still dark outside. Naturally, you need the lights to see so it’s not a big issue at that point. The problem occurs when the sun comes out and your house becomes brighter. A lot of people forget that the lights are on to begin with, which means they continue to be on until they leave their home. If you don’t switch them off before you go somewhere, they can remain on for the entire the day, which consumes even more power.

By trying to be more aware of and careful about our use of power, we can do our part to help the environment and save some money. Get used to switching off the lights whenever you leave a room. One other good habit is to use an iron to smoothen out wrinkled clothes and leave the dryer off after the clothes finish drying. If you end up leaving the workshop or basement, but plan on going right back in, switch everything off anyway because there is a good chance you won’t be going back in there for a while.
