Bones Strengthen During Fun Kids Exercises

Jumping and running helps kids develop proper bone mass, according to a study done by the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. If these exercises can be made fun, even more children will be willing to do them.

As a child grows and develops physically, their skeletal system needs the most attention. These years should be spent trying to develop bone mass and that can be done with certain exercises. Running and jumping are better for this than other exercises, such as swimming or riding a bike, because the bones respond better.

The proper exercises help the cellular mechanosensors in the bones guide osteogenesis (new bone growth) to the bone in the body that need to be strengthened. The body knows how to make kids’ bones healthy. Kids just have to do the exercises.

If you have trouble getting your kids to exercise, trying joining them. They are more likely to do it if they know you’ll do it with them. If you can spend 30 minutes with your child each day exercising you’ll both be healthier and your child’s bones will develop properly.

All kids are different and some will have more difficulty exercising. Some will also have less motivation and will prefer watching television. The key is to make exercising fun for them. Your willingness to join in and your words of encouragement go a long way too.

One way to get them to develop bone strength is with this simple exercise. Determine a spot on the floor for them to stand and have them jump forward as far as possible. Congratulate them and then have them do it again to try to beat their distance. Measure the farthest distance and write it down for them to remember. As they get older they can see if they are able to beat that distance.

There are many more exercises like this that your kids will have fun doing. In addition, you know they’ll be developing healthy bones and building bone mass. Keep your kids healthy and strong with simple and fun exercises.
