Acne Medical Treatment Options

You may be starting to get a bit frustrated and upset if you have tried a number of home remedies for the skin condition acne. Although acne generally only lasts for a short space of time for most of us, for some it can last quite a bit longer. And with severe acne, it can be much harder to treat, so that is why many traditional remedies don’t work.

If this is the case then you don’t need to despair. There are a number of medical treatment options available for acne and the good news is that most of these should work. The following are just some of the options available these days.

Most of the counters you can buy in your local pharmacy will only be effective on mild acne; if you are suffering from severe acne then you will probably find that they are not so good. If you go to your doctor though, they will be able to prescribe much stronger creams that will work a lot better on your skin problem. However a doctor’s visit will be necessary if you want these creams because they cannot be bought over the counter.

In some case of severe acne your medical team may decide that the best solution is a course of antibiotics. This will help to get rid of any bacteria and reduce the amount of inflammation.

Another good treatment for severe acne is light therapy or laser treament. The way laser treatment works is by damaging the glands in the body that are producing too much oil. This should mean less risk of acne as a build-up of oil is the main cause. Light therapy works by getting rid of the bacteria that is responsible for much of the inflammation.

You may have to pay for this type of treatment privately but it will be worth it because the results are pretty good. You may need a number of courses of treatment.
