Workout Advice for Mothers on the Go

We all strive to stay fit and healthy for a number of reasons. It makes our immune systems stronger to keep us free from all sorts of bodily afflictions and lengthen our lifespan. We also have more energy when we are fit. It enables us to perform our responsibilities more expeditiously. And we don’t feel sluggish or heavy when we are healthy. On top of all that, fitness gives us a well-sculpted and beautiful physique.

All the above-mentioned reasons explain why we should stay strive to stay healthy. Everyone derives all the advantages of fitness but if there’s a group that can stand to benefit a lot from it, it’s the busy moms.

No offense to all dads out there, but it would seem that all members of the family depend on mom. She keeps the house spic-and-span, prepares the family meals and fixes dad’s tie before he goes to work. This does not include all the running after one (even two or three!) tots, the grocery shopping and the picking up the kids after school. And we haven’t even begun talking about the deadlines and other responsibilities of the work-at-home mom or the office mom!

All moms, then, need to stay fit and healthy. By staying in tip-top shape, they do not only feel good, they can also accomplish their day-to-day tasks with ease. Moms who are healthy are also able to keep her head above all the everyday stresses that all families encounter from day-to-day.

There are many factors, however, that prevent moms from keeping themselves in shape. Lack of time is often the most common complaint. With all the house chores that need to be done and the demands asked of their time, moms rarely have time left for themselves to exercise.

And being the official cook of the family, she also gets to do many taste tests of the food she whips up before serving them. Studies have shown that moms gain about 300 calories even before dinner is served through taste-testing alone!

These are real concerns but these do not mean that it’s not possible for busy moms to lose the fat and keep fit. It’s not really the lack of material time that’s the issue. It’s self-management.

There are 1,440 minutes in every given day and of that, only 30 minutes needs to be devoted for exercise. We can always wake up ahead of everyone else and do these exercises or find time in the middle of the day after the early-morning chaos of preparing everyone for school or work. If a “serious” workout is really next to impossible, it’s time to get a bit creative. Get the broom, the rag or the vacuum cleaner and sweat it out cleaning each room in the house. Don’t just watch over the kids but join in their rough and tumble play. While preparing your meals, jiggle and dance to the beat of your favorite tune.

Now, as far as cooking is concerned, start introducing healthier fare to the entire family. Learn new ways of preparing vegetables in a tasty and colorful manner that everyone will eat. By cooking veggies, you are not only giving a healthy meal for everyone, you are also reducing the number of calories you take in during the cooking phase.

You see, with more natural foods like fruits and vegetables, you don’t have to worry about gaining weight even when you overeat.
