Work Motivation – Helps Employees Strive For Excellence
There are many kinds of work motivation and they can either be positive or negative. Managers should consider a lot of things when persuading their workers to perform at their best. We all know that if a worker does his or her work extraordinarily it will bear results far better than the standards of the Company that they work for.
These self motivated workers have to be recognized by being elevated to a position that fits them. And with this action their colleagues will be inspired to emulate them. This is one positive work motivation that is already given. It may be common but it works.
There are also workers who need to be motivated by their superiors. These are those who lack self confidence and would not want to take courage in venturing out of their shells. They are not incompetent they just need to be motivated positively. Supervisors may conduct team building activities to boost the morale of their personnel and make them more confident.
There are also negative work motivation and are known to be the favorites of BPO companies or call centers. Usually they rate their worker using a scorecard and require a certain point to hit or better known as targets. These are metrics driven scorecards that has corresponding effect or consequence.
They usually have policies like if an employee is not able to meet a months’ target they will be coached, if on the second month the employee is still unable to hit the target the worker will be undergoing another coaching with emphasis that on the third time he or she will be terminated from work.
This will be something that companies will not admit as something negative but a policy that works. For the first few times yes it works. But if you observe the turn-around of people resigning it is fast and you will see more people resigning than getting hired even offered higher salaries. This show that work motivation that is negative is considered a threat to workers tenure and will not bear positive result.
