Using Visualization Techniques To Make Breathing Exercises More Effective

Breathing exercise is tedious. Being repetitive in nature, one is not inspired to do it even if it is beneficial to one’s health. There is one technique however, to make this exercise more exciting, the so called visualization technique. Visualizing while performing breathing exercises does not only make them more interesting but many studies prove that applying this technique adds more benefits from the exercise itself.

The exercise of breathing involves sitting in a quiet spot, relaxing the body, and then inhaling and exhaling in a slow and measured pace. It is much like meditation without the meditation. You are doing something in the external but internally, there is nothing. Without anything to visualize, one can easily lose focus and fall asleep.

To make it more interesting, here are a number of ways you can try. Before you start, while breathing in and out, try to imagine your entire body while you are sitting down relaxed, and then continue with the following exercises. Remember that your mindset is everything when it comes to this, so keep an open mind and you’ll likely succeed.

1. When you take in/out the air, focus on looking at the air that is going in and out of your lungs until the air reaches the inner part of your lungs that rarely gets to meet air.

2. Again, when you take in/out the air, focus on the act of breathing in/out. Imagine pink air is coming in, while blue air is coming out of your body. Then choose one kind of act, breathing in or out only.

3. When you inhale, imagine that the air is getting in many areas of your body like in the palm and stomach, etc.

Although this might seem to complicate what would have been a simple series of exercises, it’s all worth it for its benefits – making the exercises more effective. This is what it’s all about at the end of the day, so the extra effort is certainly justifiable here.

Once you have mastered the three, you can move on making your own visualization as you please as long as you will not lose sight of the purpose which is the breathing exercise.
