Trying to Lose Weight, Go Out with Friend and Family and Not Offend

This may sound amazing, but one of the hardest things to do when you are losing weight is to get the help of friends and family.  That statement seems odd; because family and friends are suppose to be part of the support group that helps you to achieve your goals.  Yet, many times it is those same family and friends that are causing you to gain and maintain your weight.

People will maintain their bad habits.  Eating practices are one of the hardest habits to break.  Whether you go to a bar, restaurant, or a family home it is hard to not eat what the group is eating.  Especially when it comes to eating at family functions.  It is hard to be tactful in maintaining your diet, while still be a gracious guest and being part of the group.  So what do you do?  Do you just stay home and lose all of your weight in solitude and then go out when you are at your idle weight?  No, there are ways that you can be fun company without being the dietary stick in the mud.

Never go to a function hungry. This is important because many times you can’t control what type of food is going to be at a function.  If you go to a function already in need of food it is unhealthy and unwise to refuse any food that might be there.  Yet, if you are already partially full you can still partake of some food and be full without offending the host.  One of the best things to take before going to a function that will provide food is a good whey protein supplement.  Whey protein acts as a great meal replacement.  Whey protein is very low in fats and carbohydrates, and it contains over 90% pure protein.  It is also very gentle on the digestive system, which means you don’t have to worry about any gassy or bloated feelings at the party.  Also, at many party functions that include food it is hard to get a good protein that isn’t loaded with fat.  While usually the meal will contain a number of carbohydrate options, having already eaten protein you can focus on nursing a healthy portion of carbohydrates.

Another problem that people often face is the friends not knowing about the desire you have to lose weight.  Often people won’t understand your change in dietary practices if you don’t tell them that you made a change.  If you tell your friends and family about your dieting, they will usually be open to you not eating as much, or splitting different dishes with them at restaurants.

There are times that you can’t avoid eating at a function, because it would be considered rude to refuse food.  It is better in these cases to just eat, but try to limit your portions and try to slow down your eating to avoid seconds.  It will have to be a well balance act of eating enough to appear to be enjoying the food, but not too fast that you could end up with a second portion.

Educating the people you are with can also help you to enjoy your time with them more.  You can share secrets you have found out about dieting, and success that you have had.  If they are also thinking about losing weight you could turn them from a dieting problem to a dieting asset that could be part of your support team.  Just be sure not to be overbearing.  If you are on a diet, then that doesn’t mean that everyone you are with needs to also be on the diet.  Be educational to your friends but not an annoyance.

It is difficult to lose weight, and it is a change in your normal eating patterns.  Be strong in sticking to your new nutritional program and find ways to still have fun with your friends and family without putting on extra pounds.
