Top Tips for Travel Fitness

Staying on track with your fitness routine is difficult when you travel for business, but it is not impossible. I guess it all depends on how much you want to keep up with your fitness routine.

Most hotels today have work out rooms and they usually have all the usual stuff, treadmills, exercise bikes, elliptical machines, step machines and sometimes even rowing machines. It depends on the size of the hotel, the bigger the hotel the better their workout room. They even have showers available and most have a personal trainer that you can schedule to work with you.

It is a pretty simple thing for you to get your workout clothes on and ride the elevator to the workout room at your hotel, but if you are staying a place that does not have a work out room or the work out room they do have is not sufficient for you, then you have to think of other options.

If you work out in the morning, I would say that a run around the area immediately surrounding where you are staying is acceptable. This changes if you don’t work out until after work, running in a strange area after dark or at dusk is foolhardy and I hope you won’t take a chance like that. There are other options.

Many health clubs offer you a chance to work out at their facility if you stay at certain places, so if your hotel does not have a work out room on the premises, they probably have a deal with a health club nearby and you could use this facility. Your health club where you live and belong probably has a reciprocal deal with a health club where you are traveling. You should check this out with your health club; they should have a list of cooperating clubs.

Yoga is an exercise that you can practice in your room and it doesn’t take very much space to do it. Just get yourself ready and yoga size yourself in your hotel room. I used to teach aerobics for a living and if I traveled somewhere that didn’t give me workout options, I taught myself a class using the music on the radio. There are also lots of exercise shows on television, tune in to one of them and follow along, it doesn’t really matter what venue you do as long as you get your heart rate up and sweat a little in the process. You can always do push ups and sit ups no matter where you are, that doesn’t take up any space and it certainly gives you that whole body workout feeling. Push ups work every muscle in your upper body and strengthening your core can only help you.

No matter where you are or what circumstance you find yourself in while traveling, working out is an option you don’t have to live without. Even if you take a walk around the parking lot, you are moving and thinking about your fitness. That is a good thing.
