The Transformation of Dentistry Throughout Time

In the last 25 years, enormous progress has made. In the future, hopefully, people will not have to go through the painful procedures of getting braces and wearing retainers. People won’t even be obligated to wear things outside of their comfort zone because the invisible alignment devices will solve their problems effortlessly. Dentists are always coming up with better materials, procedures, and devices.

However, the history of dentistry goes back a lot farther than the last 250 years in America. History of dentistry goes back to 7,000 BC. This earliest methodology in dentistry was about curing tooth-related disorders, and skilled physicians that were usually craftsmen and beadsmen were the ones put to the task. Early postulations on what caused cavities involved tooth worms, and this supposition spanned from Eastern culture to Western culture from the time of Ancient China to Ancient Greece, and it persisted for several hundred years.

Early Egyptians also showed evidence of having their teeth worked on when their remains were dug up. Even Aristotle wrote about dental diseases. Dental extractions have been used to treat a lot of illnesses. As long ago as the Middle Ages and up until the 19th century, dentistry was not even seen as a profession though. Barbers and general physicians just did most of the work.

The materials have improved drastically. There are far less silver fillings than there used to be. White bonded materials are also be used in lieu of silver and other bad metals that have longer-lasting compatibility, reliability, and stability. This has enabled dentists to go places they’ve never been able to before.

In the 1970’s, surgical techniques were created which allowed surgeons to perform surgery on people that did not have the ability to grow any longer. Luckily, today, and in the last 50 years, dentistry has seen a major surge in popularity. Processes are becoming easier and decidedly less painful which many patients find to be a huge plus. Dentistry has made huge leaps and bounds in what it can accomplish.
