Simple Ways To Set Goals

It is not too hard to set goals, though it is sometimes a bit challenging to think of what goals one should set. To begin, creating a list of everything you like to do is certainly a good idea.

It doesn’t matter what you write, and the more things you can think of the better. When writing the list, try not to think of whether something will be possible or impossible to do, but instead write as though you were writing a wish list where you could have anything you wanted.

This step will help you move forward toward achieving your goals, since we often give up on dreams on the only basis that we don’t believe we are able to make them become reality. You would be surprised at how many of the “impossible” things are indeed possible if one approaches them with a positive attitude and puts in the right amount of effort.

Once you have completed your list, you need to select five of those wishes to really focus on. Of course, you can choose any type of wish, but it is always a great idea to pick one goal for each area of life. For instance, you can set a goal for health, one for romance, one for spirituality, one for finances, and, finally, a personal one. However, the best way to approach goal setting is to do what you feel comfortable with, so if you prefer to select more than one goal in one sector and leave another sector goal- free, it is perfectly okay. However avoid concentrating your goals on one single area, as this will unbalance your life.

Even if you feel that you can accomplish more than five goals, keep the number down to not too many more, since only having a few things to work toward will allow you to dedicate more energy toward them. If you choose too many goals to begin with, you may feel overwhelmed and give up before you even begin.

Once you get the hang of goal setting, you can then begin to add more goals later. At that point, it will be perfectly okay to set as many goals as you wish.

If you have five picked out, you need to rewrite them in goal format. This means that you should write your goals in a positive light and in the present tense. For example, I have or I am.

This is an essential step, for it imprints in the mind what you should have as opposed to what you want to have. So writing I Will or I will have should be avoided.

If your goals are written in goal format, you need to keep them and look at them every day; if possible, rewrite them every day to really impress them in the mind. The more you focus on your goals, the stronger the desire will be to accomplish them.
