Should You Choose Taekwondo Omaha

Taekwondo is a Korean martial art form combining exercise, sport, and meditation. Taekwondo Omaha martial art schools teach the skillful applications of punching, jumping, kicking, dodging, blocking, sparring, throwing and falling to neutralize an aggressor. Emphasis is on kicking because the leg is the longest and strongest weapon an unarmed fighter has.

Training centers can be found in more than 100 countries. It’s estimated there are 30 million students worldwide and 3 million black belts. Taekwondo is taught to the South Korean military as an integral part of hand-to-hand combat training. Sparring is an official Olympic sport.

Several different associations promote and certify instructors in different forms and styles of Taekwondo. The most well known are the World Taekwondo Federation and the International Taekwon-Do Federation. There are many other smaller and/or private associations that train and certify black belt instructors.

General training includes kicks, punches, and open-hand strikes. Stances are very important and the beginning of all training. A proper stance allows for maximum balance, speed, and flexibility when executing blocks, strikes, kicks, and punches. The union of mind and body is demonstrated by the breaking of boards and bricks which requires focus, breathing control, accuracy, and speed of properly executed techniques.

The different associations set their own rules for belts and rank requirements but the basics stay the same. Students start with an unadorned white belt. Many, but not all forms, add stripes to a belt as students learn skill sets. After earning their stripes, students test to advance to the next belt. The order of belts is white, yellow, green, blue, red, then black. Black belts continue to advance through 9 degree levels.

Belt advancement requires a promotion test with students demonstrating their mastery of forms and techniques. They must also know and be able to answer questions about martial arts concepts, history, and terminology. Higher belt promotions may require a written test. As students progress in rank they must show increases in speed, accuracy, and control along with mastery of new forms and techniques.

Join Taekwondo Omaha to develop strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. Students learn martial art forms and techniques, self-defense techniques, sparring, throwing and or falling techniques. Relaxation and meditation exercises train students to focus and concentrate. Moral character is also emphasized, along with self-discipline, respect, and self-confidence. This martial art style is popular with and can be learned by all ages, males and females.
