Some people say that stress is a fact of life. External factors like jobs, businesses, social relationships, challenges, expectations, and other situations that confront us everyday can result to stress.

But that is not the way it should be. Ridding our lives of stress can take on many forms. Practicing self-restraint and focusing on things that really matter in our lives are the most effective ways to do this.

One way to relieve stress is not to over-schedule yourself. Learn to say no to things now and then. If you schedule 30 or 40 hours of events into a 24-hour day, you’re asking for trouble. You have to weed out those things in life that are less important to you.

Another good tip is not to take your work home with you, either physically or mentally. You can’t change what happened, so try not to obsess over it. There’s always tomorrow for things to be different. It doesn’t all have to be solved in a day.

Sleep is a major stress-eliminator. To get a good night’s sleep, you need to establish a good sleeping habit. You should find ways to relax and calm yourself so that sleep will come easier. Soothing music, a good book or magazine, anything that will help you become at ease and fall asleep right away.

The reason that sleep is so important is that you are only going to be more stressed if you aren’t sleeping. Then, that added stress will lead to more trouble sleeping. It’s a vicious cycle that you need to break as soon as possible.

You should also stop trying to help everyone out. Choose who really needs it and help them only. You need to learn that you can’t save all the people all the time.

You can’t save the world on your own. When you finally realize that, you’ve learned how to reduce stress in your life and probably feel much more relaxed.
