Practice: the Cure for Your Public Speaking Fears

While many people enjoy a good conversation with family or friends, the majority of people would probably say that they are uncomfortable or afraid to speak in public. Even someone that talks a lot and is very engaging in conversation will more likely than not be afraid of public speaking. Yet, as with most things, they are probably afraid because they are not used to doing it. Truthfully, all one really has to do to conquer this fear is to become familiar with doing it, to practice, practice, and practice some more.

There are lots of different organizations that provide motivational speakers for many different topics. Motivational speakers strive to provide positive influence and guidance to those in the audience. Imploring the audience to act now, making a direct change in their lives or the life of someone else is a tactic used by many professional motivational speakers.

Probably the best time for a person to start their training in public speaking is early in life. Still, this means very little if you were not lucky enough to have that experience. While this gives one a lot of practice and experience speaking publicly, this does not always mean they will be great, no matter how comfortable they are doing it. Regardless of how much someone has gotten used to public speaking, they can still develop bad habits if their practices are not quality practices.

If you really want to conquer your fear, at some point you will have to actually speak in front of people, even if it is just practice. It is essential that you get used to people staring at you while you speak, without any clue as to what they are really thinking about either you or your speech. Practicing with an audience provides you with the chance to have other eyes, ears, and minds to observe and analyze your good and bad tendencies, thereby giving you specific areas to refine and improve upon. To give yourself enough time to rally focus on those challenging areas, and also to benchmarks to keep track of your progress, you could schedule your audience training at regular intervals.
