PHYTO 5 EXTREME CREAM HYDRATING WITH ARCTIC BERRIES

What is hydration?

All living organisms need water. Human body is made up primarily of water. Skin, the largest organ of our body, contains about 80 % of water and is made of 3 layers:

– Epidermis, the barrier between the body and the environment.

– Dermis, the water reservoir of the skin.

– Hypodermis, the inner layer of the skin that connects the skin to the bones and muscles.

Skin contains about 10 % of the water contained in all the body.

Water is fixed in the skin in the dermis layer. This water is pumped as needed by the epidermis and is fixed in it by some compounds named natural moisturizing factors (NMF). On the surface of the skin, the hydrolipidic film is a blend of sebum (lipids) and water that protects the skin from external aggressions and prevent inner water for evaporating. When the skin epidermis is damaged by external conditions (cold, wind, pollution …) there is a disorganisation of the skin micro relief with an alteration of desquamation. As a consequence the skin doesn’t act anymore as a protective barrier and it let water evaporate. If the skin looses water, the epidermis is weakened and water evaporates faster. It is a vicious circle.

Why is hydration necessary for the skin ?

The skin is in constant contact with the environment. The epidermis has the very important barrier function that protects the skin from external aggressions. It also protects the skin from trans-epidermal water loss. Skin can be dehydrated because of external factors such as cold or wind or because of internal factors such as periods or menopause. When the epidermis is weakened due to dehydration for example, the skin becomes more vulnerable to external aggressions. Hydration of skin reinforces this barrier as well as all the layers of the skin.

A dehydration of the skin can occur on dry skin as well as on oily skin, resulting in a sensation of discomfort, itching or irritation. The dehydrated skin looses its suppleness and becomes rough, and crackly. Wrinkles appear. As the skin becomes very sensitive, the discomfort increases with cleansing and friction. Dehydration of the skin is the first step in skin aging. It is necessary to hydrate your skin at any age to prevent the skin from premature aging. With mature skin, dehydration is common and the first active ingredient needed in an anti-age cream is a hydrating ingredient. Hydration is necessary to keep a soft, supple, tonic and radiant skin. Hydration is always linked to protection. A properly hydrating cream becomes a protection cream. It should be used daily, at any age, and it should become a natural habit like brushing teeth.

How can you hydrate your skin?

A hydrating cream can act in 2 different ways.

1. Increasing water reserve. You can use for example oil in water cream or milk, that contain a lot of water and that will provide short time hydration.

2. Decreasing trans-epidermal water loss . You can use a very oily cream (or even pure oil) to create a lipid barrier on the surface of the skin in order to prevent water from evaporating. But, it would result in a very oily and uncomfortable skin surface without contributing water to the skin.

EXTREME CREAM effectively combines these 2 different ways of hydrating. First you bring water to the skin and hydrate it (water reserve). Secondly you create a hydro-lipid barrier that prevents water loss. Thirdly, EXTREME CREAM restructures the micro relief of the skin surface and normalises desquamation. This results in a stronger epidermis and a stronger protective barrier. A hydrated skin is smoother and looks healthy and radiant.

EXTREME CREAM is first recommended as a hydrating cream for extreme environmental conditions, such as cold, wind, dry air, salted water, air-conditioned, pollution, use of detergents, dishwashing products or aggressive shower gels, hard water or UV. But it should also be used at any age, by anyone who wants to protect their skin against dehydration and premature aging by nourishing, hydrating and restructuring their skin.

What makes EXTREM CREAM so efficient?

The ingredients of EXTREME CREAM were carefully chosen for the extremely potent efficacy. We will focus on some the most important ones.

Organic Red Alfa (Lingonberry) seed oil: This berry from the Arctic region, is extremely rich in omega 3, 6 and 9 (moisturizing and anti-age). It has the highest content of omega 3 (up to 50%) among berry seed oils. Essential fatty acids (omega 3,6 and 9) are named essential because they are not produced by the human body. Being important part of the lipids of the skin’s cell, the omega acids are also involved in the production of moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and immune molecules. Without them, the skin looses its suppleness and elasticity; the epidermis is weakened and the barrier function of the skin is decreased. Lingonberry is also rich in tocotrienols (antioxidants, more powerful than vitamin E). It also contains plant sterols that reduce skin sensitivity and have anti-inflammatory and revitalizing properties. These ingredients are essential to the berry in order to survive temperatures as low as minus 50°C. Similarly these ingredients also protect the skin from extreme conditions.

Organic Aloe Vera: it acts directly on collagen fibres. It induces skin elasticity. It contains complex polysaccharides which allow water retention for improved hydration. It also has calming, soothing and antioxidant properties.

Aquaxyl: high tech hydrating concept of natural origin (wheat) allowing a harmony of cutaneaous hydrous flow necessary to an optimal hydration. It hydrated deeply the skin and forms a protective barrier that prevents water from evaporating from the skin. This active ingredient, with proven efficacy, is both hydrating and restructuring.

Natural vitamin E: main antioxidant of the organism, it protects the cells against free radicals and prevents oils from going rancid.

Organic oat extract: anti-inflammatory, emollient, calming. It is used in the treatment of dry skins, burnt skins, sunburns and eczema.

Finally the synergy of essential oils including Ginger and Orange was chosen for its energetic properties (Metal Element in Traditional Chinese Medicine) as well as their moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties.

The combination of ancient knowledge from Traditional Chinese Medicine with new high tech natural molecules allows achieving a great efficacy. Moreover Extreme Cream is certified by Ecocert (France) as ecological organic cosmetic. It contains more than 99 % of natural origin ingredients.

Proven efficacy of EXTREME CREAM:

The evaluation of moisturizing efficacy of EXTREME CREAM was made by Skin Test Institute (Neuchâtel, Switzerland) by corneometry measurements. Extreme Cream was applied twice a day, on 10 healthy volunteers’ forearm, aged 35-65 years, during 2 weeks.

Results: hydration evolution in %

The benefit of EXTREME CREAM is already shown after the 1st application with more than 40 % after 6 hours. The benefit of regular application is noticeable. After 2 weeks of twice daily application the skin moisture increase is more than 50 %.

All these results characterise Extreme Cream as EXCELLENT MOISTURIZER. This is the best qualification delivered by the Skin Test Institute.

Finally, to achieve and maintain a perfect hydration of the skin, don’t forget to drink at least 2 liters of water per day to hydrate your skin from the inside. Healthy food, including essential fatty acids, vitamins and trace minerals is necessary for a wonderful skin. And a last tip: if you work in a dry climate or air-conditioned, you can use a flower water spray (Aura Flora from Phyto5 for example) regularly during the day to bring water to your skin. Before the application of extreme cream you can also use Aura Flora. EXTREME CREAM will hold the flower water into your skin.
