Managing the Consequences of Stress

Stress comes in many forms, workplace stress, family stress, grief over loss of a loved one, etc… Some can be avoided, but as we know, many cannot. Some people handle stress better than others, and some even thrive on it. Regardless, stress takes its toll.

One of the negative effects of stress is the rapid decrease of vitamins and minerals within our body. When these nutrients continue to deplete, more complications take place such as: lethargy, mental impairment and development of skin problems like acne, pustules and skin dryness. Regarding skin problems, a person becomes more conscious on his or her physique as the effects of stress become more noticeable to other people.

Although stress cannot be thwarted, its effects can be minimized. First of all, it is important to engage on a healthy diet. This includes eating vegetables and fruits frequently. Furthermore, it is important to include foods with high contents of omega-3 fatty acids like salmon. Intake of these foods can enhance brain activities, limits aging manifestations and promotes faster healing of wounds. Secondly, taking vitamin supplements everyday is strongly suggested to compensate the loss of those vitamins and minerals in the body due to stress.

Aside from having a healthy diet, regular exercise should also be implemented such as aerobics. With enough exercise, healthy hormones are released that can combat those chemicals formed due to stress.

Although it has not yet been fully concluded, researches have hypothesized that prayer and meditation can limit the symptoms of stress. It wouldn’t hurt to invest twenty minutes doing these activities.

The latest rage is skin peels for a quick fix. Skin peels will slough off the top layers of skin and reveal fresher, cleaner skin. The most effective are TCA peels and phenol peels (phenol peels are dangerous and should only be performed by a licensed plastic surgeon). TCA, trichloroacetic acid, is a medium depth skin peel that works on the most skin ailments – aging skin, sun damage, even has been proven to treat and cure acne. No other skin peel can safely do all that a TCA peel can.
