Kegel Exercise can also Help Men

The kegel exercise was developed by a man named Dr. Arnold Kegel, and its purpose is to strengthen the PC muscles. Until recently, you mostly only heard about these exercises in reference to women. However, men get a lot of benefits from them as well, and they are becoming more and more popular among men lately. After more men have found out about all of the possible benefits from doing these exercises regularly, they will end up being just as common among males as they are for females.

When men do these exercises their urethra and bladder become stronger. Of course, this will be highly beneficial for any man who has had prostate surgery. Men can gain more control over their bladder by making the muscles that surround it stronger.

The PC muscles become weak as time goes by, and there could be various causes as to why. Sometimes it is just a natural thing that happens along with aging. However, the chances are increased in those who are overweight or neglect to get regular exercise. An additional reason for this weakness could be prostate surgery.

Before you can start doing the kegel exercise, you will have to be able to locate which muscles need to be exercised. The best way to find the right muscles is to try to stop in the middle of urinating. Remember which muscles you used to do this, as these are the PC muscles that you will need to focus on when you are doing the exercises. Remember that the only time that you will stop the flow of your urine is to determine the proper muscles to focus on. If you do the exercises during urination you can out yourself at risk of getting a urinary tract infection.

Once you are aware of the muscles that you need to target during kegel exercise, the exercises themselves may be done at any time no matter what you are doing. Just make sure that you have an empty bladder every time you do the exercises. To do them, you just contract those PC muscles and hold it for up to 5 seconds. Then you take twice as many seconds to relax the muscles in between sets.

Ideally, the exercises should be done in repetitions of ten, up to 3 times a day. When you are first beginning to do the exercises, you will only be able to hold the contractions for a couple of seconds at most. As time goes by, you will be continuously practicing so your muscles will begin to get stronger and you will be able to hold the contractions longer. The longest that you should hold your contractions is 10 seconds. By exercising these muscles daily, your strength will increase so you can avoid exhaustion.

Try to do your exercises at the same time each day so that you will be more likely to remember them. As long as you remain consistent, kegel exercise can be beneficial to you in many ways!
