Keeping Your Teeth Healthy & What to watch Out For.

There is nothing more annoying than to feel dental pain. However, finding an answer is dependant on identifying what are the symptoms resulting in pain.It is crucial to consider the age, whether pregnant, or a nursing mother as well as other possible symptoms. Also a range of allergies, have to be considered. Hence it is important as to which dentist you may choose.

Dental Pain Control

In the majority of cases, dental pain can be regulated for a while by the use of paracetamol, aspirin & ibuprofen. These can be obtained without the need of a prescription, and are obtainable from most shops. Only a minority of dental pain cases need a visit to your general practitioner, or dentist.

Crooked Teeth

By the use of special devices and techniques called orthodontics, crooked teeth can be straightened. An orthodontist is a dentist who has been expressly trained to adapt a range of braces (orthodontic appliances), & can be fixed or removable, to improve upon the appearance and health of your gums & teeth.

Ulcers of the Mouth

An ulcer is any breaking up of the lining of the mouth, which may include the cheeks, tongue, gums, lips and top of the mouth. The raw surface of an ulcer is often very sore and agonizing. Some ulcers start as single ulcers; some ulcers arrive in groups. Some heal quite fast leaving no blemish behind, and some heal leaving a scar that may be noticeable for a period. Some ulcers come into sight and then disappear never to return, others may keep coming back on a regular basis.A single ulcer, which is not getting better and which has been there for more than 10 days should be checked out at by your dental practitioner. If there is not a good explanation for the ulcer not healing, it should be looked at further to eliminate a likely cancer. Most ulcers however are not malignant and can be made clear after the dentist has asked about different aspects of the ulcer.

If there are concerns about an ulcer, your dentist can complete a full examination. If the dentist feels it is appropriate, they may recommend you to a dental consultant, for further action and/or treatment.

Tooth Whitening and Bleaching

Tooth discolouration can be from either surface stain or internal stain factors. Mostly our teeth become darker as we become older – it is part of the normal ageing process. The deciduous or milk teeth have a much better look than their permanent successors. Many people would prefer their teeth to look whiter and so look at various whitening and bleaching options.

Planned trips to the dental practitioner or hygienist and proper tooth brushing are all an important part of regulating good oral hygiene, a healthy mouth and exemplary teeth. Bleaching is the method of using chemical solutions to generate an oxidation of the discoloured molecules within the tooth. It is not a temporary process. A dentist applying bleaching can also do away with surface stains such as tobacco, tea and coffee.

So it pays to take time and effort to care for your teeth bearing in mind that they are basically the only set that belong to you! It is worth spending money to make sure that your teeth are well maintained, it is worth it. Pay attention to your dental practitioner and act appropriately.
