In Summertime Remember The Cooling Fans

Summer is here. The temperatures are high and people are trying to stay cool. In the heat there are ways to keep the body temperature down. Cooling fans are one way. If a person cannot afford to purchase one there are simple ideas to help beat the heat.

Drinking water is the number one recommended action a person can take to stay cool. Doctors recommend it as most of the American population is actually considered dehydrated. People mainly drink sodas, tea and other caffeinated beverages that continue to make a person dehydrated. Keep water bottles in the freezer or refrigerator for a cold refreshing drink. Use a water bottle to squirt the face and body to help stay cool.

Popsicles are another great way to cool the body. Keeping a bunch in the freezer will help stay cool. They are cold ice that is soothing in the rising temperatures. Kids will love the treat and not mind the heat so much. Throw water bottles in the freezer and take them on the go. As the ice melts, a nice cold drink will be available. Also stay away from alcoholic or drinks with caffeine in them as they will dehydrate a person very quickly.

If the house has an air conditioner, run it moderately. Keep the temperature reasonable as to not overwhelm the system. They are expensive to repair and there is nothing worse than having an air conditioner that does not want to work when the temperatures are in the nineties.

Dressing for the season is important. Do not wear dark clothing. Wear lightweight cotton blends and in light colors. Cotton will keep the body cooler than wearing synthetic types. Stay indoors if the weather is completely unbearable. Take a few showers to stay cool. Use warm or cool water instead of hot.

Eating light cooler type foods are another way to beat the heat. Try salads, cool pasta salads or even fruit. If eating pasta type salads with mayonnaise in them, make sure to refrigerate them properly to avoid food poisoning. Do a quick search online for new recipes. The family will be surprised and happy.

If the house has no fans or air conditioning there are ways to seek relief from the heat. Go to the local library, movie theatre, shopping mall or even a senior center. They are always cool and will give the person a little relief. Some towns have cooling stations for those that are suffering from the heat. Heat exhaustion can turn into heat stroke very quickly and can be deadly.

Each year summer rolls around. People look forward to it until the temps outside go high. Heat and humidity can be fought and even without fans and air conditioners. Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Wear loose cool clothing. Take a few cooler showers each day and relax. Do not overdo it. Heat exhaustion or heat stroke can set in easy on these days.
