To avoid fire, here are some preventive measures to keep your home safe especially if you have kids inside your home. Make sure that you light candles only when you are around. Blow them off if you are not around. Do not let children play with candles.

Always use stable candle holders when you are using one. This is to avoid the wind toppling your candle holder and cause fire with the table cloth or the curtains.

Keep things such as hand towels and other flammable materials away from the fire while you are cooking. They might easily catch fire and would most likely cause panic within the kitchen. Store them away from the fire as far away as possible.

When buying for heaters or appliances, look for automatic off features or timers that will help you shut the appliance off even if you are not around. This will make your home safer and make you feel more comfortable when you are away.

Inform the entire family about your plans when fire happens. Agree to stay calm in case of fire inside the home and plan an escape route. Practice drills if you can.

If you plan on grilling, make sure that it is ten feet away from your house or any flammable materials. Keep the children away from the grill even after you are done grilling as there are still fire causing materials left inside the grill.

Learn how to use a fire extinguisher. You might have a fire extinguisher on your home but it would be useless if you do not know how to use them. If you have no idea how to use it, you can read the instructions or talk to your local fire officials about it.

Make sure that your home has a steady flow of air to avoid overheating of your appliances. When appliances are overheated, they tend to cause sparks which would later turn to fire.
