How To Properly Develop Your Back

Most people are NOT training their backs properly because it’s a group of muscles they can’t readily see. However, having a properly trained back is more important than ever because of the modern day “rounded shoulders” phenomenon.

You could be one of the countless people who are neglecting their backs and putting their postural health in danger. If so, please take the advice in this article to heart.

Whatever the case, here are some ways to make your back training more effective:

1. Keep your back guessing: All too often I see trainees doing the same cookie cutter workouts day in and day out, week in and week out. Do this and you will sabotage any potential progress. You see, the body is simply too adaptable for this simplistic approach. Never do the same back workout consecutively.

2. Accelerate the pace: A great way to increase intensity and burn a little more body fat is to reduce the amount of time you spend resting between sets. Not only will this add an extra element of difficulty, but it will also crank up your metabolism which translates into more calories burned.

3. Don’t use the same grips all the time: If you use the same standard grips every time you work your back, you will neglect a lot of different muscles. Try wide grips, narrow grips, side by side grips and you can even experiment with different straps. Straps are an effective tool for placing more stress on your back.

4. Develop the width of your back: Having a wide back will make your waist look a lot smaller. And who wouldn’t want a smaller waist? To do this, use an extremely wide grip when doing pull downs or any type of downward pulling motion.

5. Pinch your elbows together: You want to do this towards the end of each movement. By trying to pinch your elbows together (towards the middle part of your back), you will engage all the little muscles that pull your shoulder blades backwards. In other words, it’s a great way to improve your posture.

Training your back the right way is a great method for not only looking good, but also maintaining the health of your posture. So don’t wait until tomorrow to act on this information, act on it today!
