How To Establish Great Routines

Routines

One aspect of personal growth that can really slow people down on their journey to development is the process of getting fresh self-improvement information (from guides, CDs, podcasts) and then applying this latest knowledge to their lives.

Getting a “return on the time invested” in studying how to be better is not usually talked about in self improvement. People will sit down and pay attention to presenters or even read wonderful books and they immediately understand that the knowledge they are obtaining has the potential to transform their lives. But, they don’t get any information with how to implement all the great stuff they just learned.

Then, two months later, nothing is different. And, that is because absorbing great material only gets you so far. You have to be able to apply what you learned in your daily life, too.

Increasing your intelligence is a great thing, but it is not worth much if you can’t use it in your life. To generate value, the information must be turned into a habit.

Some techniques can be tried once and I see how effective they are, and then I will implement them forever. For example, once took an hour to determine the best way to color code my email messages for improved efficiency, I became hooked. Other strategies, take me longer to embrace. meditation is one thing that feels amazing, but since it is difficult for me to clear my mind, it took several weeks before it became a regular part of my life.

Targeted repetition of knowledge will make it a routine in your life. You will observe the gains in your life and feel increasingly more determined to maintain the repetition. This forms a behavior and you will not need to think about doing it. It will become your automatic method of handling life.
