How to Conserve Electricity Each Day

More electricity is squandered everyday in America than in any other nation worldwide. With environmental problems like pollution and the depletion of the ozone layer, we have to be extremely conscious of just how much electricity we consume.

Here, we are going to talk about several things that we all can do to not only save energy but save some money in the process. These are really easy things that any person can do, you merely need to make the choice to do them in order to help the Earth and ourselves.

One thing you can do is to simply turn off the lights when you exit a room. Many people will go out of a room for 10 to 15 minutes to go to the kitchen to make a snack or to do something else and they leave the light turned on in the room they left because they will going back in to the room shortly. If you do this for just a couple of times each day, it could add up to no less than thirty minutes of squandered electrical power. Even though 30 minutes doesn’t look like much, don’t forget that millions upon millions of people do this each day. If you total the minutes for the year, that would be about 182 hours of electricity just for one light in one room for every soul that does this. Next try multiplying that by just 1 million people. That’s 182 million hours of electricity squandered every year coming from a light that is left on in one room.

One other thing that is causing electricity to be wasted is the habit a lot of people have of entering a room and turning the lights on. It’s something many people do automatically. I find myself doing it too. The trouble is that even during the day when you don’t need the light because you’re getting more than enough sunlight to light up the room. And nonetheless, we enter a fairly lit room and flip the light switch to on. Add to that, most us keep forgetting to flip the lights off because there is already lots of natural light coming in we don’t realize the light is still flipped on. You only need to make a conscious effort to not switch the lights on during the day unless you have to.

People who leave their televisions and radios switched on the entire day, when they are not even in the same room is one of the biggest issues. I yell at my mother each time I come visit and she has her television on but isn’t even watching it. This is a huge waste of electricity. If you are not going to be in the room anymore and the telly is switched on, switch it off.

These are simply several easy things that can be done each day to help save energy and to help save the planet by doing so. It doesn’t take much to do what we explained but if every person does it, regardless how little it may be, it will have a huge positive outcome.
