How to become a psychologist

One would need to have a lot of confidence and competence in the field along with a post graduate degree in psychology to become a budding psychologist. And, before that, a little bit of training or intern under other psychologists would be required. This will open up further more opportunities to one, than before.

If one would go on a PhD program or even for a Psy.D program, one is sure to have lesser tension on hand, when one is practicing. This training and internship gives a better exposure to many different kinds of patients so that later it becomes easy to treat a variety of patients. There is a difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist. If the person only performs a diagnosis then he is a psychologist and if the person treats as well as diagnosis, then he will be a psychiatrist.

More than any academic achievements, if one had the experience of being an assistant to a psychologist or nursing or service unto disabled people under the supervision of a clinical pathologist, would be very essential.

To become a good clinical psychologist one would be required to make some positive changes in one. The subject should be understood by the use of psychometric tests, or direct and indirect interaction with the patients.

Treatment programs like therapy, advice or counseling should go hand in hand with the list of practices. A proper treatment plan should be laid out for those with depression and anxiety. Maintaining the medical records of a person are very important and even a single small detail should not be missed.

Going for research work along with the knowledge in Computers and quantitative research would make one to have a better opportunity over the others as a psychologist. It is best to go to the psychologist first and then to a psychiatrist.
