Girls Aloud singer and former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole has turned to neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), it recently emerged. After being confronted by a series of challenges over the last couple of years, she is trying to restore her confidence.
Cole’s misfortunes include the widely publicised adulterous behaviour of her husband, Chelsea and England left-back Ashley Cole, as well as their ensuing divorce and her malaria scare whilst on holiday in Tanzania. Most recently, she was dropped from the judging panel on the US version of hit TV show X Factor. It is now being reported that she and Ashley Cole are on the verge of getting back together, but her self-esteem has taken a big knock, and she is using NLP as a means of re-establishing her confident, positive outlook having been introduced to the technique by a friend whilst in America.
Cole suffered from panic attacks and clinical depression as a teenager, according to the Girls Aloud autobiography, entitled Dreams That Glitter: Our Story. By learning NLP techniques, however, her levels of self-assurance and positive thinking are increasing exponentially.
NLP has also become a popular option for a number of other famous personalities. Many stars from the world of sport have used techniques such as NLP and hypnotherapy to overcome dips in confidence and ultimately enhance their performance, with the likes of golfer Jack Nicklaus claiming that his achievements are just 10% physical and 90% psychological.
Popstars like Lily Allen and Geri Halliwell and TV personalities like Oprah Winfrey, Jimmy Carr and Heston Blumenthal have also turned to NLP in an effort to develop themselves personally. Anxiety and self-doubt can affect anyone, regardless of what they have already achieved, but tools such as NLP can offer a powerful means of breaking negative patterns of behaviour and letting go of negative attitudes.
