Instead of resorting to poisons that could be harmful, there a number of household products that work very well. Safe but effective they will do the trick. Vinegar is the first to come to mind. Just about everyone knows the many uses it has, but many may not know it also repels bugs. If you are beginning to see ants in the home, just spray vinegar wherever you see them.

One of the least expensive ways to get rid of these pests is black pepper. It is so safe, it will not even hurt the ants. What it will do is make a barrier that the ants will not cross. Sprinkle it in any area where you have seen ants entering your home.

Who would have thought the lowly cucumber would have any insect repelling properties. There is said to be something in the peelings that insects find very bitter. It not only works for ants, but moths and wasps too.

If you should happen to see a number of large ant hills around your home, there is one sure way of killing them off. Take boiling water and pour it directly on the ant hill. As the hot water seeps into the ground it will kill the ants, their food, and larvae.

Using the peels of citrus fruits and adding a bit of water, makes a fine spray for getting rid of ants. Boric acid will kill an ant but is nontoxic to humans. Apple cider vinegar mixed in equal parts of water is also good but safe to use around children and pets. Again, just spray the solution wherever you notice activity.
