Healthy And Appetizing Vegan Pizza

For those of you who haven’t had a vegan pizza recipe without cheese, it’s not as scary as you might think. All the other factors are still there – a soft homemade dough, a flavorful sauce and some delicious toppings. Play around with pizza toppings to create your own healthy vegan recipes.

Prep Time: 30 min. Cooking time: 30 min. Time from start to eating: 1 hour. Makes enough for 2 medium pizzas.

Healthy Vegan Pizza Recipe Ingredients:

Pizza Dough:

1 cup whole grain flour

1 Tbsp yeast

1 tsp salt

1 Tbsp olive oil

1 cup water

BBQ Sauce (see below)

Toppings:

Tempeh, cubed

Red pepper, diced

Tomato, diced

Handful of spinach, chopped

1 tsp olive oil

pinch of sea salt

Healthy Vegan Pizza Recipe Directions:

1. If you’re making your own dough, mix the flour, yeast and salt in a mixing bowl. Make a well in the center and add the oil, then the water. Stir the dough together and add flour or water as needed to make a soft dough. Knead for about 5 minutes, and then roll or press out into pizza crust shapes.

2. Sprinkle some coarsely ground millet or corn flour on a baking sheet, and put the crusts in the oven at 400 degrees F for 10 minutes, or until they start to get a light color.

3. If you don’t time or fancy making a dough from scratch, you can make use of whole wheat pita breads.

4. Meanwhile, chop up the vegetables. Place them in a bowl and toss with some olive oil and salt. Get the pizza crusts out of the oven, top with the sauce, and then the vegetables.

5. Place the pizzas back in the oven for about 20 minutes, or until the vegetables are soft.

Healthy Vegan BBQ Sauce Ingredients:

2 tsp olive oil

1 onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, crushed

4 Tbsp brown rice syrup or unrefined sugar

2 Tbsp molasses

1 small can tomato paste

1 cup apple cider vinegar

1/2 tsp ground coriander

1/2 tsp dry mustard powder

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1/4 tsp allspice

1/4 tsp ground cardamom

12 tsp sea salt

1 cup water

Healthy Vegan BBQ Sauce Directions:

1. Heat the oil in a saucepan and saute the onion until it transparent, then add the garlic for a short saute.

2. Add the remaining of the ingredients, and then add water if you need, to achieve your desired consistency.

3. Bring it to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes. Let it cool, and then puree if you wish, or leave the onions whole.
