Great Tips To Keep Your Hair Healthy All Summer Long

With summer going full tilt, it’s a good time to be reminded of the correct way to protect your hair from sun damage.

Unnecessary sun could cause a number of hair woes. Too many days at the beach without protection can leave your hair dry, fragile, and more susceptible to further damage from brushing and heat styling. Those of us with coloured hair also know that sunlight speeds up the fading process, causing once-vibrant locks to become cheap or dull.

What to do?

Slathering on some SPF is a conspicuous way to avoid sunburns on the face and body, but what can you do to keep your locks satisfied and healthy while you are out enjoying the sunshine?

Prevention is best. The strongest sunlight occurs between 10 a.m. And 4 p.m. Minimise your exposure to the sun during this window of time. If you are planning on catching some noon rays, be absolutely sure to protect your hair in several of the following ways:

Wear a hat. Hats are a smart (and fashionable) addition to anyone’s summer wardrobe. They can protect the hair, as well as the eyes and face. Watch out with some sorts of straw hats, which may still allow quite a bit of sun onto your hair. If your fave straw hat is a bit “holey”, consider wearing a scarf or an SPF hair product underneath to guarantee you're absolutely covered.

Talking of SPF products.Look for a hair product specially formulated with sun protective ingredients. There are leave-in sprays and gels available, as well as shampoos and conditioners indented for use before and after sun exposure.

Stay conditioned. Utilise a deep conditioner at least once a week. By keeping the cuticles on your hair strands coated, they'll be less susceptible to damage from the sun, salt, and chlorine.

Think outside of the shower. You may apply a deep conditioner before heading out into the sun (with your hat on, of course) or before diving into the swimming pool. The conditioning agents can essentially serve as a barrier between your vulnerable strands and the elements.

Don’t bleach and beach. Attempt to postpone any major lightening of your hair color till summer is over. Your hair will naturally lighten if you spend much time outside, and hair that's penetrable from highlighting or bleaching will just be more prone to sun damage. “Fry-lighted” hair is rarely a nice thing.

Schedule a post-summer trim. After several months of hotter weather and summer activities, your hair will need some TLC. When your beach schedule starts winding down, schedule a visit with your favorite hair stylist, who can clean up any frizzled ends and add shine with a conditioning treatment or colour service.
