There is no specific definition available for high functioning Autism, but in general the term gets applied to those who have Autism and are able to function significantly more than others who are Autistic. Some people who have Autism will be better at performing certain tasks than others. In some cases, it is also called Asperger Syndrome.

This will be considered the most common symptom of high functioning Autism.

How does this affect a person socially?

In common circumstances, those who have HFA may make some mistakes in their social life that a person without this problem would not, such as forgetting to knock on the door before entering a person’s home or using the wrong tone in a conversation. There are many instances where a person with HFA will make certain social mistakes that will greatly affect their social life.

They will also tend to be shy by nature, which is why they will often feel disconnected. However, just like other people who have Autism, those with HFA do not have a learning disability. Research shows that 90% of people with HFA will have an IQ that is higher than 75.

Another issue that people with HFA face is that they work best when they have a specific routine, and they do not like to go out of their specified order or routine for anything. They prefer to keep everything in a systematic order, and they do not like the order to be changed for any reason.
