Different Types Of Rosacea

One of the more common skin disorders is Rosacea which tends to appear when the person hits their thirties. Due to the acne like pimples and a strong blushing appearance this skin condition can affect the person both mentally and physically for if Rosacea is left untreated it can lead to health problems. Doctors classify Rosacea in four different categories: Ocular, Phymatous, Papulopustular and Erythematotelangiectatic. Through out this article we will look at each class of Rosacea and see how they differ from one another.

Ocular Rosacea is the first classification that we will take a look at. With this type the skin around the eyes is effected and it can lead to itching, dry and tearing of the eyes which is rather uncomfortable. Styes showing up are not uncommon for people suffering from Ocular Rosacea and this can lead to the eyelids having a swollen appearance. With this type of Rosacea if it is left untreated it can lead to partial and total vision loss.

Phymatous Rosacea affects the skin area around the nose. What happens is the skin becomes thicker and it will lead to the point where the appearance of the nose is much larger due to the increase in excessive skin. Phymatous Rosacea is directly linked to a condition called rhinopyma which is basically a nose that is much larger and red in color.

The third type of Rosacea is commonly referred to as acne Rosacea or Papulopustular Rosacea and it tends to be similar in appearance to acne. With Papulopustular Rosacea the persons face will have a redness to it along with bumps and pimples that are similar to acne. If this type is left untreated it can lead to a much more pronounced appearance that can be difficult to treat.

Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea is the final type that we will look at and it is the most common form of this skin condition. With Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea the person face will appear to be flushed or blushing but it will stay that way for sometime. If left untreated this form of Rosacea will progress where the redness will remain and the facial veins will become more prominent.

When it comes to treatment for Rosacea it is going to depend on how it is classified and how soon it is undiagnosed. Although the psychological affects seem to be the most prominent if this skin disorder is left untreated it can become much worse and lead to more health concerns. As with any medical condition it is important to seek out professional help early so that the success of treatment will be at a much higher rate. Rosacea treatments have come along way in the last few years and hopefully in the near future there will be a cure for this particular skin disorder.
