Abnormal vaginal bleeding, heart disease and stroke are other possible side effects. The chances of getting any of these depend mostly on the medical history and present health condition of the patient. The doctor should be made aware of any previous or ongoing medical conditions.

There are different methods of administration and each affect the body differently. By taking small doses daily through oral administration abnormal bleeding can be avoided. There are also transdermal patches that have to be changed either weekly or biweekly. Other methods include vaginal tablets, rings, creams and bioidentical hormone therapy.
