Dangers of Slimming Down with Certain Methods

Are you trying to lose weight? There is a wealth of available information and you need to pick one plan that looks reasonable to you. Sticking to a healthy diet and doing regular exercise can be a slow way to lose weight so people often try risky ways instead. Most commonly, women are resorting to these risky methods as they feel pressured into being thin by society. Our society pressures women into being thin so they often choose these risky weight loss methods. Being at a healthy weight is optimal but, if you decide to use a dangerous weight loss method, you can actually jeopardize your health. Here is some information that will shed light on these risky methods.

Most people choose to starve themselves when they are looking for a quick weight loss fix and then they suffer from low energy levels due to not consuming enough food. You may simply skip breakfast or lunch, or maybe both meals. Even though your body is forcefully telling you that you’re hungry and need food, you tell yourself mentally that you’re not hungry. However, after a while your body learns to adjust. Since your body believes it is being starved, it slows down the metabolism process in order to save energy, prompting you to burn less fat than you normally would. When you do decide to eat normally again, your metabolism will still be fairly slow, so you will store calories more easily, resulting in you putting on all of that fat quicker. You will lose weight by starving yourself, but not as much as you would with a proper diet and exercise plan. Wouldn’t you rather eat, be healthy and lose more weight?

Starving yourself can sometimes result in anorexia. You have a fear of food and getting fat, resulting in becoming perilously thin and not eating much, if anything at all. Anorexia can result in a weaker immune system, loss of hair and even death. Many teenagers try starvation diets but, when you become obsessed with starving yourself, it can eventually turn into anorexia which can destroy your body and your health.

Then, there is binge-eating syndrome. Bulimic people regularly regurgitate after bingeing on bigger amounts of food so that the calories will not add weight to their bodies. They are not scared of food as anorexics do, but they feel guilt-ridden after binging on large amounts of food and so they throw it back up. In comparison to anorexia and starvation where it is apparent that the person is losing weight, bulimia is difficult to detect because the weight doesn’t fluctuate widely. Regurgitating your food is hard on your body. It can cause damage to your heart, liver, and kidneys. Stomach ulcers may develop because of the continual regurgitating of food. Your esophagus mught be destroyed by the stomach acid and your teeth could lose their enamel. The acid can as well cause injury to your throat. Your body can be severely injured by throwing up your food regularly.

For best results, eat healthy foods and eat moderately. Try to keep the less healthy food out of your diet as much as possible and eat smaller portion sizes. You can effectively become slimmer without risking your health.
