CT Radiographer Jobs Across The Globe

Only a certified, registered x-ray technologist, can work at CT radiographer jobs. The term, “CT”, means Cat-Scan or Computerized Tomography. Tomography is the term used for x-ray images which provide fine detail by obtaining “cuts” or “slices” of the body part, as opposed to the imaging the whole thing at once.

Radiographer is another term for x-ray technologist or x-ray technician. Learning how to take CT images is part of any Radiography program. After the completion of high school, a two or three year program is required at an accredited university or college. High school Physics and Chemistry are mandatory for acceptance into the program.

There are two portions to the program – the academic and the practical. Some students practice locums in cities other than where their training-facility is located. Before employment, students must pass government exams for certification and registration within their state. Some universities and colleges have extended programs for Radiographers to earn a Bachelor of Science degree.

Radiographers are not physicians. A radiologist is a physician who specializes in the interpretation of CT, x-ray, ultra-sound and MRI images. X-Ray technologists must also be skilled in interpreting the information revealed in these diagnostic images.

The x-ray technologist’s duties include extensive patient care as well as ensuring everyone’s safety when in the vicinity of x-radiation. They can administer contrast media, (“x-ray dye”), under the direction of a physician/radiologist. Laws prohibit nurses and physicians from using x-radiation, for any reason.

CT scanners are installed in hospitals to assess urgent and chronic care cases. They are also installed in private clinics in the US, Australia and Great Britain, for instance. CT radiographers can find jobs where ever there are CT scanners. If they choose not to work in a hospital setting, they can elect to find a job in a private clinic where they might not be required to work shifts or weekends.

Radiology jobs can be found through Nuffield Health Careers as can private nursing jobs
