CNA Medical Duties
It should be noted that the Medical Assistant is not the same as a CNA medical, as the latter is an Assistant nurse who works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. By going in for a CNA medical course, you can pursue a nursing career. Both the medical assistant and the CNA have similar jobs to do, such as keeping the records of patients and helping them with their medicines, but the CNA must also perform other duties related to the bedside aid of the patients, which the Medical Assistant does not do.
The CNA Medical student has to react with the patient and the Registered Nurse, or the Licensed Practical Nurse and not with the doctor or physician. He actually acts as a liaison between the patient and the nurse. They take care of the patient’s tests and hygiene and other activities that the patient is not able to perform by himself.
The HIPAA and OSHA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and Occupational Safety Health Administration) prescribe certain stipulations that are to be followed by the CNA medical. It is essential to always remain calm and composed as well as kind and tolerant towards the patients at all times. Medical assistants have to report to doctors or physicians and work only in clinics and doctor’s offices, whereas the CNA medical can also work in patient’s homes and aid them with their daily duties. He has to, however, do this under the supervision of a RN or an LPN.
The CNA medical must write the certification examination and then avail of many job choices. He will need to look after patients who have undergone surgery or those suffering terminal illnesses, and hence provide them with proper monitoring. It is a highly responsible job and a high standard is expected according to Federal regulations.
Most states require certain fixed hours of training before taking the certification exam. Topics are also specified for the CNA medical, such as Communication skills, infection control, emergency and safety measures training and respecting the dignity and privacy of the patient. The state cannot reduce the number of training hours, whereas some states require more number of hours of training.
