Beginner’s Guide to Body Building

When you hear the words “body building” what do you think of? Does your mind conjure up pictures of overly muscled people parading around a stage and posing? Do you think of that person who can lift hundreds of pounds of weights all by himself? Believe it or not there is a lot more to body building than simply turning yourself into someone with giant muscles. Body building is how many people strengthen their muscles and tone them as they work to get into better shape.

No body building routine is finished until it is paired with a balanced and nutritious diet. This makes body building like every other workout that is out there. If you really want to be healthy you need to eat nutritious, balanced and healthy foods. This means that you should not eat junk food but should eat grains, fruits and vegetables. Steer clear of chemicalized ingredients and high fructose corn syrup. These things work against your body. You need to eat a balanced and healthy diet if you are going to ensure that your muscles get all of the nutrients they need while you work them out and heal them up. Take some time to try out all of the different exercises that body builders do. You do not have to commit to anything yet but try everything out. Each exercise will work a different muscle and learning them will help you figure out your future workout routine. It will be easier to plan a workout and to get results when you know exactly what you need to do to each part of your body. Think about it: if you want to build up the muscles in your arms, you don’t want to do a bunch of exercises meant to develop your legs! If you take some time to explore and to learn you will be less likely to waste time and hurt yourself.

There are many different types of exercises that body builders can do to work on their muscles including but in no way limited to: squats, lunges, curls, barbell work, dumbbell work, leg presses, dead lifts, pull ups, hanging leg raises and all of the exercises that non body builders do like cardiovascular work, swimming, biking and running. Don’t ever try to do these exercises by yourself, even if you are an expert at them. You should always have a spotter when you are lifting, especially during the days when you are working on building up your strength for new weight limits. Lifting without a spotter could be dangerous as you will have no one to help you if a lift becomes too difficult to do on your own.

Try to stay positive! It sounds cliche but The Little Engine that Could is an appropriate metaphor. It is a real outlook! It is the key to success.

You need to take steps to protect your muscles from too much wear and tear as you work on improving your overall strength, muscle tone and health. When you take the right steps to protect yourself you should see a lot of success with your body building activities.
