A Few Facts Concerning Child Development

Child development is a project that can last a very long time. It starts when a baby enters this world and usually does not end until he, or she, enters adolescence. Thus one must be prepared to fulfill all the needs that little person has in order to help reach their full potential.

What one must take into consideration is that there are certain stages that every human being must go through in order to grow up with all the skills necessary to fully function as a person. For example a baby will first learn to lift their head while lying on the belly. Next he, or she, will be able to hold the weight of their body on outstretched arms.

After a while and a few more stages a young one will achieve a body that is strong enough to stand on their own two feet. Once that is accomplished then it is time they begin learning to walk. A parent can help that particular process along by giving them the opportunity to practice those necessary physical skills. Thus one must be sure and give them the time away from swings, bassinets, car seats, and baby seats.

Gaining physical abilities though are not the only things that a young one must learn. Intellectual development is just as important for the opportunities it can open up to them. For instance they must learn to talk if they want to better communicate their needs to those around them. Thus a parent is responsible for ensuring that their child’s vocabulary increases as they age.

Beginning to speak involves the making of noises in response to any voice that they may hear. Next they begin to try to imitate whatever noises that they have heard. Eventually though they will attempt to mimic any words that are spoken near them.

Simple sentences are often formed around the age of two. In fact the vocabulary one has at that stage can number around two hundred words. Thus a parent has the responsibility to help a child acquire more words by interacting with them with speech that is simple and direct. The use of baby talk at that time is a hindrance rather than a help. Another thing that will greatly help in acquiring language skills is to read many books to them.

Child development is an endeavor that can take up much of a parent’s time and energy. Many feel though that the rewards they receive as a result are well worth their efforts. One thing that a person can do to make it a bit easier on themselves is to gain an understanding of what is to come and how to recognize a problem if it arises.
