One of the great things about running a small business is they usually grow out of a passion, or an avid interest in a topic. In my case, the business was borne out of two. During these chats, the number 1 thing my clients desire is that little bit of additional surfing fitness. This makes sense. Nothing can really prepare you for the rigors of a surfing holiday, other than lots and lots of surfing. No matter how much you surf at home, the chances are you’ll surf more on your holiday for no reason other than the fact that you’ll have more time to play with.

So what is the best way to get that extra bit of fitness for a surfing holiday. I believe there are 3 things you should do. The first two should be part of your healthy lifestyle, the last should be a pre travel booster. Here they are:

The first thing you need to take care of is your general level of endurance. You need to be fit enough to go hard for 10 – 15 minutes minimum, as often this is the minimum paddling requirement for getting through the breakers and out the back.

You need a little more than basic endurance though, you need water endurance. Have a look at the best surfers and swimmers in the world. They glide through the water, seemingly effortlessly. This is because they have a great feel for the water. They know how to move their body so it is moving efficiently. This is so important in the water as we are inately inefficient in what is really an alien environment.

So get in the pool and swim at least twice a week. If you have a break near you, surf at least twice a week. No matter what you do, just make sure you are getting wet twice a week, every week of the year. Your water fitness will just come. It will just be something that develops, you will become more and more familiar with the water environment simply because you are being in it. Don’t make any excuses, go on, get wet.

The second key to surfing fitness is flexibility, balance and core strength. Once again, this is not something you want to leave till the last minute, rather something you want to develop over time as part of your commitment to surfing, health and fitness.

Yoga is the answer here. Yoga is so good for surfing fitness, it is almost as if it was invented purely with the surfer in mind. Not only does yoga help you improve your flexibility, balance and core strength, it also re-aligns and re-balances your body back into its natural and healthy position, away from the imbalanced position which surfing causes.

Also, even the simple act of paddling requires you to over-arch your back, creating a distortion in the development of your back muscles. Yoga sorts all these types of issues out, as well as conditioning your body. My advice, get yourself a surf specific yoga DVD and do it 2 or 3 times a week.

If you take care of the two items above (Ie water fitness and flexibility/core strength) you can give your surfing fitness a real booster by doing a functional training program specific to surfing. The point of functional training is it focuses in on the specific muscle and fitness requirements of a sport (in this case surfing) and trains those muscles in accordance with the needs of the sport.

To embellish a little, we’ve assumed you have a good level of general fitness, reasonable core strength and flexibility, so you are ready to participate in your every day level of surfing. However, in recognising that on the upcoming holiday your body is going to be using your surfing muscles a whole lot more than it usually does, for a short period of time, we give those muscles a fitness boost by performing very specific and related exercises.

Why You Need to Use HPA With Your Paint Ball Guns

New players to paintball often go for the less expensive equipment and markers. This is comparable to how beginners of all sports usually start with equipment that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

If you often play in the winter months using CO2 can be detrimental to your markers performance. You can think of cold weather as CO2s worst enemy when it comes to shooting it through your paintball marker.

When you shoot fast, your marker can “freeze up” which happens when the liquid enters your marker and wreaks havoc in performance. It can cause your gun to sputter, choke, or stop working.

If you have ice shooting out of your gun or what looks like a cloudy, icy, muzzle flash and had your paintballs shooting at erratic distances, you might want to consider making the switch to compressed air.

CO2 exists in both gas and liquid. In the case of most paintball markers, liquid is bad and when it gets in the gun it will cause poor performance. HPA tanks are nothing but compressed air, so there is no liquid, and no problems during rapid fire.

What Is Formula Drifting?

Unless you are a aficionado of racing cars, there is a decent chance that you have not heard of Formula D Racing. Formula D has its followers naturally, yet it is still not as widely known as the other forms of racing like Formula One, Drag Car Racing, NASCAR or Cross Country Rallying. This is partly because it is a fairly new kind of car racing.

Every year the national television coverage is a bit more extensive, yet it is taking a long time to prise some of the airtime away from the more traditional sports. Once you have seen a competition though, the likelihood is that you will become hooked on this exciting sport that they have Christened Formula D.

The ‘D’ in Formula D stands for ‘drifting’ which is another name given to the sport. Drifting refers to the angle of the car with reference to the sides of the road at any given moment. Drifting around bends permits the car to maintain its highest possible speed in a bend. Drifting sounds natural and therefore commonplace, but it is actually very difficult to do well.

Drifting takes skill and plenty of practice. Drivers are judged in part on their talent at drifting. There are in fact two facets of Formula D or two sorts of drifting. There are the traditional style qualifying runs but there are also tandem battles. Qualifying runs involve the driver racing solo flat out against the clock, drifting as necessary to maintain the highest speed possible.

However, tandem runs involve two car drivers who are being scored on their skills at outwitting the other driver. The judges are looking for the line of drift, the speed of the cars, overtaking, crashes and much more. Driving in the tandem runs definitely sorts the men out from the boys.

Formula Drifting grew up a little haphazardly, but there have been serious attempts to regulate it. At the moment the Formula Drift Championship is the only professional drifting championship that is sanctioned by SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Pro Racing in the United States, although there are frequently amateur local drifting competitions held unofficially.

There has to be more officially sanctioned races so that standards are maintained and each driver follows the same set of regulations. This is the only way that the television channels will pick up on drifting and help advertise it more. Drifting is new to the United States, but the first Drifting Races took place in 2004, so not all that long ago anyway. It is still very much a modern sport.

Preparing for a race requires training in endurance and strength and teaching yourself how to rest and recover. Mountain Cycling Training involves time both on the bike and off of it. Gradually increase the connective tissue and muscle temperature when you prepare for your training. This will prevent you from getting injured, having cramps and having a feeling of tightness. A 20 to 45 minute warm-up is recommended.

Mentally focus on your workouts and ride at about 90 rpm at low pedal resistance for about 5 to 10 minutes. Add more pedal resistance after 10 minutes and remember to breathe deeply and stay relaxed. When you get off the bike stretch your shoulders, neck, lower back, calves, hamstrings and quads.

Weight lifting will help you to control your bike off road. Do squats, dead lifts and use a stability ball to make it a bit harder. Inverted rows, push-ups, bench presses and chin-ups are good exercises to do.

Start to prepare for your body for your ride three months beforehand. Begin to drink electrolytes while you train. Two months before take note when you get fatigued during your workouts and at these times have an electrolyte drink to stabilize your amino acids and blood sugar. Drink water every 35 to 40 minutes on hot days and every 45 minutes on cool days. A month before the ride take balanced vitamin supplements and eat balanced meals that include vegetables, whole grains and fresh fruit.

The day before the event eat plenty of carbs and a moderate amount of protein and fat. Foods that contain protein and fiber can bulk you up meaning extra pit stops. Drink enough fluids but not too much. On the day of the race have a bagel, toast or pancakes and allow two hours to digest. Coffee and tea are diuretics and will increase pit stops. Stay hydrated, drink a liter of water of electrolyte every hour, replenish carbs and avoid high fat, fiber and protein. Wrestling Arm Moves

While the arm moves are famous in the ring, there are many moves you may see today that you would never have heard of when wrestling first had its beginning in ancient times. From what I can see the Amityville Horror is just a ploy to persuade people to rent or buy the movie with the same name. The move is listed in the list of wrestling moves, but, so far, no information is available about what this move entails. Moves are basically brands made up by the wrestlers themselves, so I’m assuming that the wrestler felt he had devised one of the most horrific moves in wrestling and so he called it the Amityville Horror.

Why is it that some moves get loud cheers? Well, it can start when a wrestler in the ring introduces something new and it becomes his signature, popular final move in his bouts.

What Type Of Cars Are NASCAR Cars?

Stock car racing was really born out of the inclination of owners of modified stock (meaning: ‘off the sales lot’) cars to show off their vehicles, craftsmanship and driving expertise. Under these conditions the cars quickly fell apart, so NASCAR allowed competing cars to be customized or strengthened. Safety aspects for the drivers were also introduced. Nowadays, the NASCAR instruction manual clearly defines all the modifications that are allowed on contending cars.

These days it is a mistake to call NASCAR cars ‘stock cars’; they are anything but stock cars. NASCAR cars are hand made. The frames are different from stock cars in that they are manufactured from tubes for strength; the tin is sheet steel and the engine blocks start as simply that – a bare block. What the mechanics do with it after that is a tightly guarded secret.
